k-Public 1-9th Lutheran School (1 year HS) 10-12th Public. We moved from a bad area hence the Lutheran School to a very good areas with great schools. Church Paid my freshman year at the Lutheran HS because my parents had no money but once my parents got out of the bad area we were fortunate to go to a great Public HS.  My kids go all Public but with what we pay for taxes it might as well be private. The school though is top notch. I don't get why people that live in this area would then go on and pay for a private HS when the HS is in top 2% in the country.

I went to private kindergarten (no public K at the time), then public school from 1st grade through a master's program.

The school district I went to was one of the top in the state (still is!), but even there, even then, I got beat up in a junior high classroom - with a teacher present - and the only consequence was a trip to the guidance counselor's office so the counselor could explain to me how much better my life was than the beater's, and wouldn't I please show some compassion?

In high school, the bathrooms were so disgusting - full of cigarette smoke, for one thing - that I only ever used the bathroom in the girls' locker room, which was marginally less revolting. Pot smoke lingered in the air over the parking lot, and fights were common enough that I learned to hug the lockers as I went through certain halls.

Our daughter goes to a private Quaker school. They learn conflict resolution skills starting in pre-K, and the antibullying program goes from pre-K - 12th grade, getting more complex as it goes. Critical thinking skills are emphasized, along with self-advocacy and supervised independence. Nothing prevents teenage girl drama, but at least it's extremely unlikely my daughter will get beat up in a classroom!

I went to public schools K- undergrad. Private (grad school)

Up until recently, I thought I had had an ok education considering it was free. However, I met a guy who's family is fairly wealthy and we started talking about schools. He went to a private school - I think mostly for high school. It was a $40k a year school.

He showed me pics and we compared experiences. He was always fascinated with the John Hughes movies of the 80s' because he assumed that they depicted what real high school was like...

Anyway, I had a cafeteria and the best days were Friday for square pizza. He had a dining hall that looked like Hogwarts with prepared meals, real plates and silverware.

I took social studies and history (no field trips). He had similar courses and for his Biology class went to the Galapagos for a field trip. For a course in anthropology, he went to the Amazon... There were more examples like this but I don't remember.

We had track, swimming, basketball and football. He had crew, lacrosse, and sailing among other things! (kinda expected them to have quidditch too)

While these things are just the fluff, his knowledge on basic topics we all learned in high school seemed to dwarf mine. He seemed to have gotten more insight and more in depth study in a broader range of subjects than I was ever exposed to. Sometimes, I think that I might have been cheated. I feel as if I need to hit the books so I can catch up.

So, while I did turn out fine having attended the public schools, I think it might have been an interesting, if not enlightening experience, to have attended a private school. I suspect that I would be significantly better off today if that had been the case.
