Props to Social Security website
« on: April 02, 2022, 10:52:42 AM »
Just went to the Social Security website to download my latest statement.
The benefits calculator on the page with very easy to adjust future earnings is great.

Also made it really easy to see how little any future earnings would increase my benefits.

I just wanted to publicly acknowledge a great improvement to a government website. If you haven't looked at your mySocialSecurity recently, I recommend it.

It's a super powerful tool with just excellent features and information. As bad as our tax system is the SSA site is great.

Could we get those web designers over to the train wreck that is TreasuryDirect?

Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to check it out.

I've been curious how retiring ~55 will affect my benefits.

It won't work for that (unless you're already 55) as it only lets you set an amount for all future earnings until retirement age. Here's a good tool that should be able to give you the answer you're looking for. The calculations also aren't too hard if you want to do them yourself.

Gotcha... No I'm 41 now, hoping to retire ~55 and the estamites all assume similar earnings until 65/67 etc.

I'll take a look at that link. Thanks

This isn't a calculator, but Justin does do a good explanation of how ER impacts your SS.  Spoiler:  Not as much as you'd think.
