Promoting FIRE movement?
« on: July 06, 2019, 09:18:05 AM »
Let’s do some macro economic for dummies on this Saturday morning.
I’m wondering what would happen if the rest of the world was following the FIRE movement advice ?

If I got it right , the premise of the fire movement is spend less, save more  , invest in the stock market, and let it ride (market always goes up long term)

Now if everyone was following this direction, less consumption would lead to less demand, more unemployment , less growth. (Consumption is fueling investment which are both contributing to the growth of the market)

Therefore our investment would not grow anymore since that growth is fueled by the consumption of the other.

In other words, aren’t better off by not promoting the FIRE movement , because too many people joining the FIRE movement would bring it to collapse?
Which brings me to the follow up question of : isnt the FIRE movement being selfish, because they are living off the people they are criticizing (the consumerist)

Alright students you have 2 hours . Welcoming every idea especially the one contradicting me.

There are tons of threads on this subject in the forums. You can have a look around and read through them.

Not to mention a post by MMM himself.  https://www.mrmoneymustache.com/2012/04/09/what-if-everyone-became-frugal/
There are other similar posts by other FIRE movement bloggers as well that cover this topic, but I don't have them handy.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
