SpotMobile going out of business
« on: August 12, 2014, 03:20:24 PM »
Hello all. Not sure if this is the correct category. I'm a long time reader first time poster.
Any-who, I first came across Spotmobile from the Ultimate Tech Guide and have been using them for a while now. I have had no problems with them and they have been great. Unfortunately, it looks like they are going out of business. :(

Just thought I'd let you know.

Yeah, it's sad news. I'd posted it myself to the guide discussion thread last week when I found out. I was quite disheartened to hear that the merger wasn't going to go through and that they were winding down operations back in July.

Thankfully, though... Spot is going out with some class and shutting down like an MVNO should: They ceased activations for two weeks leading up to this notice with advanced notification to their dealers, and gave their customers a full 30 day notice to port out while continuing service through those 30 days. That's danged classy, and is an act that shows why they earned their place in the guide to begin with. I (and many others) will miss having them in the market, but they're going out on a high note unlike others have in the past. *cough-PrepaYd-cough*

On the bright side, P'tel appears to be filling in some of the holes that Spot is leaving behind as they announced last week the introduction of an unlimited talk and text with no data plan for $20/month, and an unlimited talk, text and 2G data plan for $25.

Anyway, best of luck with your number porting to your next carrier InXS, and to anyone else who is also with Spot.

To the folks at Spot if you're reading this... thank you, and G-dspeed to you all.
