post-holiday shopping
« on: February 15, 2017, 07:34:49 PM »
Just a friendly reminder that all Valentine's Day chocolate is 50% off today, February 15th.  If you can find any by the end of the week, it's likely to be 70%.

Valentines themed dark chocolate M&Ms are cheaper at my local store today than are regular chocolate chips from the baking isle, which are normally the most cost effective way to purchase diabetes.  With any other non-perishable good I would normally consider buying a year's supply, but I can't keep a year's supply of chocolate in my house for more than about five days.

Big laugh at this.

Ah, the post- Halloween and Valentine's Day sales, the high holidays of chocoholics everywhere!

Good quality dark chocolate in moderation, I've been repeatedly assured, has lots of health benefits.  Like Sol, I haven't found a way to handle having large staches of it around without inhaling it down immoderately.  Best I can do to slow myself down is dip it in brandy and suck that off along with a thin layer of the chocolate ---- it extends the life of the piece of chocolate immensely.

All of which reminds me, I've got to go to the store for, um, staples!😁

My local supermarket has 50% off T-bone steaks!

Did they somehow expect people to stay home and cook for their loved one, so now they have a ton left over?

I bought some marked-down Valentine's Day themed dog toys at Petco yesterday.  They also still had a few leftover (lousy) Christmas-themed ones for something like 90% off.

Maybe other dogs are different, but our dogs don't observe holidays or care that their new toys are pink and funny-looking.

My wife looked for 50% off chocolate yesterday (I forget what store), but she said there was no Valentine's candy to be found - the store had replaced it with Easter candy.

It's just as well. I'm also one of those people who just inhales the stuff when it's around. The pic below shows what was supposed to be at least a six-month supply of candy (purchased on my last trip to visit family). It lasted just under a month.

lol! My kids love m m (chocolate chip) cookies. Unfortunately at our dollar store, I don't know what they do with the V day chocolate after the date. Except for some lame candies, it all disappears.

Yeah, my kids cannot moderate themselves with candy/chocolate. They also dip into the fun additions to lunch boxes like cheese crackers, granola bars, fruit gummies and yogurt, so they run out for lunches before they should.

Funny. My daughter is the total opposite of me. She can have Halloween candy lying around for months. Maybe it's partly because she's an only child, so there's no competition for the junk food, but I think part of it is just genetic makeup.

Oh wow.  There would have been hell to pay if we had eaten as a snack something designated for lunches.  Snacks were quite clearly prescribed by my folks ... though within reason, our Halloween candy etc was ours to do with as we wished.  I think they were just as happy if we ate it all quickly and got it out of the house.  :-)

My experience today, too!

Feb 15 came and went with no 50%-off chocolate from DH, but he did take care of a big, inconvenient errand I should have run, so I am happy.  The diabetes will have to wait!
