Credit card companies are nowhere near as bad as crypto. I would even argue that if one uses a credit card from a major bank, they have no standing to critique others getting CC referrals.

Well, I personally think credit card companies are worse. Why is there a debt and consumer problem? Credit cards. They fuel addiction for the masses. They are to money what McDonalds is to food.

Meh. I listened to the conversation, and it was okay.

Paula seemed fine (I don't really know her), but definitely reminded me of folks I know who *need* to name drop, and remind folks of how cool they are.  Also, her definition of friendship was .... interesting. But to each their own. It was nice to listen in and hear a little more about the "encouraging rich people to consume less" aspect of Pete's shtick. That feels like something he should lean into more. Lord knows the world needs more of that.

Completely agree. And I know he is under no obligation to come to the forum, but I also wish he would participate more here precisely to prioritize it. Because as MMM has gained in visibility and popularity, so many of the people who are on here now seem to have completely missed the memo that part of the message.

Isn't coming up with and promoting a selfish reason to consume less without beating people over the head with it kind of the whole point? If he wanted to be a moralistic eco-warrior type making people feel bad about consuming he would have done it, and probably failed like everyone else with that message. Instead he gives people a reason to consume less that's directly good for them regardless of what anyone else does and oh yeah, it's good for the planet too. He's creating an empowerment driven consumption reduction movement which works better than a guilt driven consumption reduction movement.

Sure it is. But he was always explicitly clear about the tie-in between consuming less and saving the planet. It’s just that now, a large chunk of people who know about mustachianism weren’t introduced to it primarily through the blog, but rather through other sources that either simplify or water down the message. I don’t honestly see a lot of mustachianism a la Pete’s original messages on this forum anymore.

Does Paula (or really any FIRE podcasts) have written transcripts for their podcadts for us deaf/HOH people?  I couldn't find anything on her site but would like to "hear" (ok read ;-)) this podcast.
Mad Fientist usually does. It’s not the easiest read, but I don’t mind parsing it out, because I really hate podcasts.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
