The funny part to me was underneath:
Reply- "How about spend less on candles?"
OP- "No"

...about 1/4 the case studies I see.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's absurdist humor. Or does everyone else already know this and I'm just now picking up on the fact that y'all know?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's absurdist humor.

It's not that absurd.

Switch to Republic Wireless, get some energy efficient bulbs, cook at home more, maybe get a roommate to cut that rent down, and he can get most of those categories quite a bit lower.

Probably drop his monthly spend down from $4900 to $4300, a savings of  $600/mo = $7200/yr.  That's $180,000 less he needs to have saved using the 4% rule, just by trimming his food, data, rent, and utility bills.

That's like telling a smoker that they can smoke 10 packs a day forever just as long as they chip away at the other stuff.  I guess that's funny, but no LOL.  Did not tickle my funnybone, but otherwise good stuff in this here thread, fun to revisit.

Or he could follow your advice and get 16% more candles

One day I want to go in and withdraw like $100,000 in cash just so I can see what it looks and feels like in real life. How big (size) is 100,000 $1 bills? +/-6000 cubic inches... Should fit in a large suitcase? (30x20x10) But would it be within the airline weight standards? :)

I remember bringing a duffel bag to the bank to withdraw 13k for a motorcycle purchase (before mustachianism). It fit in an envelope, not even particularly stuffed. So 8 kinda full envelopes.

You had $100s though.  He asked about $1 bills.  So 800ish kinda full envelopes, not 8.  :)

Yes, those people are the worst. All of you posting pictures are the best.

The Ron one makes no sense to our British friends.  :)

This briefly did the rounds again after the (GBP £) pound crashed and burned. Many a person thought they were minted or investment geniuses because their investments went up (when measured in GBP) even though their global purchasing power went down.

Not to derail here but if I convert a bunch of my money to USD (or USD investments), and then the pound crashes vs the dollar it's still a good (or lucky) move that makes me real money.

Not only have I preserved my global purchasing power  by doing so but for most people 99% of their spending is in local currency anyways, so you win.

Part of my strategy is to hold a large chunk of my investments in USD as a hedge - it reduces volatility tremendously.

I think this only works though if the factors that drive your home currency are sufficiently different from the USD - this probably would not work in reverse since for most US investors foreign currency would probably amplify volatility.

Should have specified, this was people in the UK investing in GBP based international investments, who would be spending in GBP. In the lag between the GBP dropping and prices rising there was a benefit. But having £30 that buys you 10 Big Macs doesn't make you richer than having £40 that buys you 10 Big Macs, ceteris paribus, IMO.

You people have never worked in food service(or as a stripper?) have you?  Wait tables, and you can accumulate a lot of 1's. 100 bucks in crusty ones feels way more impressive for some reason than 1 crisp 100.

I don't remember where I saw this (probably here), but loved it so much I saved it to my hard drive.

For months, I have been searching for a piece of art to hang in my 19 month old's bedroom. I have found that piece of art. Now if I wasn't such a tightwad, I might actually buy it.

And another that resonates with me:

I actually can really clearly picture Denzel Washington saying that. The image is from John Q., right? It would actually be fitting to work that sentiment into the movie somewhere, given the plot arc.
