Paying Attention to the Details & Simplifying
« on: December 16, 2013, 11:55:25 AM »
I'm mindful that paying attention to the details is important, and simplifying my life can help me do that.

I recently learned someone had hacked into my PayPal account to use it for a fraudulent transaction.  Because of this, my account had been locked down and I was not permitted to receive money.  I didn't realize immediately because I don't use my account often, so a rebate for an expensive mystery shop and a ebates check was rejected.  (Of course neither of these companies told me that payment had been rejected.)  One 45 minute call to PayPal later, my account was unlocked.  An set of emails has the $105 check going back to my account on the 20th, and I'm waiting to hear back from Ebates about my $10 check.

I wish I had realized this was happening before I had to get these payments resent, but I'm glad I didn't forget about them and followed up when I realized it had taken way too long for them to arrive.

In terms of simplfying my life, I've recently made a "30 day paperwork" challenge with a friend.  Our pact is to do one piece of paperwork/admin on our desk each day to work down the pile.  I am planning to stay more on top of this in the future so I don't let things slip through my fingers.  (Several months ago, I lost a $55 payment for misplacing a Amex card and they canceled it).

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
