Part time overseas

I'm interested in hacking FIRE and it occurred to me that a lot of people here talk about retiring for cheaper overseas. Great for some but not for others. How about living overseas cheaply for 3 or 6 months a year to stretch out the budget? Seems like a great compromise to me and something I'll consider doing.

I am thinking about this as well. Airfare would eat into the savings but I guess that depends on where you go. I would love to go live 6 months somewhere and then come back for 6 months to be with family and then head back out to a different place. In the perfect scenario I could rent out my townhouse I live in for the 6 months that I am gone. Not sure how feasible that would be. Anyway I am interested in seeing the responses here.
