Painter Issue
« on: July 23, 2017, 07:04:53 PM »
As part of our lease renewal, our landlord offered to have our house painted, which was desperately needed.  The painter came last week and was there while we were gone during the day and away for a couple nights for them to finish and let is air out.  We got home tonight and discovered they had unplugged our chest freezer in the garage (I assume to plug in their saw to cut crown molding) and they never plugged it back in.  Now we have a puddle on the floor and lost hundreds of dollars of food.  Do we have any recourse?

Contact your landlord and let them know.

Ask for contact info for the painter and let them know.

If the painter does a lot of work for the landlord, they may decide paying for the lost food is good business.   They might also just do the right thing.

And take photos.

I would think the painter should be liable for your loss of food and time to clean up, and should have business insurance to cover these kinds of things. Though I'd first start off gently with the landlord and painter to see if they will cover it out of pocket, rather than you having to go down the formal claim route.

Theres 2 kinds of people in the world. Those that want to do the right thing, and those that dont.

Id find out which one your landlord / painter is.   (let the landlord know so he can let the painters know, since I assume he paid the bill)

If they are in group 2 id probably just let it go if your otherwise satisfied with the new paint and crown molding ( I assume they installed new if a saw was required).
