Our great escape plan
« on: May 14, 2013, 06:04:25 PM »
2.5 years left on our great escape plan...aka quit working for the man and see the usa in our chev....isuzu flatbed truck

We need to sell stuff....an unbelievably large amount of stuff like animal skins, pinball machines, ceramic kilns, milling machines/lathes, looms, legos, pool table, trucks, a car, ah, the list goes on forever.  I have no idea how we are going to get rid of this stuff easily without practically giving it away...ebay would take forever.  All of my time now is dedicated to building our vehicle and getting the house ready to sell next year.  I also need to build a small cnc mill to take with us as I will be giving up my 7000 pound bedmill when we sell the house.  :-(

We have started building our escape vehicle, which is based on a 2006 Isuzu NRR 20 foot flatbed truck with a 5.1L 4 cyl diesel engine (about 15 to 18mpg).  It can carry around 10,000 pounds of payload and we are building a removeable custom flatbed truck camper to fit on it (they don't exist in the wild or we would have bought one).  Currently we have framed the camper and installed the roof, now are working on the aluminum siding.  After the camper will be a garage pod that sits behind the camper on the flatbed and holds our dual sport yamaha wr250r motorcycles (65mpg) and other stuff for boondocking.

We plan to live mostly on blm land, coming into town every few weeks for water and supplies.  I will have about 200 gallons of water storage on the flatbed.  We hope to live on about $36,000 a year or less...fuel will be a large component of our budget.

Here is an artist conception of our vehicle, plus a pic of it under construction.

This is awesome. Please post more pics as construction progresses.

Also feel free to send me details/pics about the sale of your skins and the kiln(s). If they're in good shape I could be interested!

Estate auction?
It seems like people are always paying too much at these things in my experience. Depending on what percentage the auction company takes, this would probably be the easiest option.

estate auction...there is an idea.

I was thinking of contacting a local storage place and staging 8 or 10 storage unit auctions (yes we have that much stuff).  After watching an episode of storage wars, I think I could get $20,000 or $30,000 just by aranging a few good items up front :-)

Just kidding.  Well...maybe...

Joet, can you tell me where the yurt is from? I love it! I've never seen a wooden walled one.

Google-fu tells me it's in Carlton, Washington: http://glampinghub.com/attractions/poidetail.aspx?keyid=5553
