OOMA or other VoIP service in Canada
« on: June 13, 2014, 02:53:20 PM »
We have a small satellite office in Yellowknife, with two separate land lines for calls, and one land line for fax. Total monthly cost averages $250 which I find ridiculous especially for the volume of calls we make and receive and the fact that we are rarely in the office. My colleague and I would be happy with just using our personal cell phones all the time and cut our office telephone costs completely, but this option is out of the question for many reasons, one of which is that we must keep our existing land line numbers but cannot port them to any cell phone provider in our area.

At this time, we would likely keep one land line for the fax, and switch the two voice lines to VoIP. I looked into OOMA and their services seem to meet our needs, including being able to port our existing numbers (which I find it strange because we can't port our numbers to cell phone providers). However, I after reading the Superguide, I am no longer sure OOMA is the best option. Does anyone have any experience with OOMA and other VoIP in Canada?

I've been using a MagicJack Plus for the past 6 months and it works great.  I'm not sure about porting your number (that wasn't a concern for me so I didn't check into it).  Call quality isn't a problem and the price seems to be cheaper than Ooma.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
