Online envelope system?
« on: July 24, 2018, 05:46:49 PM »
I’ve been doing dave ramsey’s Envelope system for a while and I have dozens of envelopes.  I like it and it has worked well, but I’m just extra busy at work right now.  So I’m looking for an online system where I can take my monthly allotment and divvy it up.  So I’d need an account for everything from  Christmas fund to eating out etc.  thanks!

That's what YNAB is, but it has an annual fee, so not sure if you're looking for something free. I thought Dave Ramsey's company also built one?

I thought it just let you set a budget. Can you actually transfer money into different accounts?

I used to have lots of different accounts, but YNAB makes the accounts unnecessary because it separates the envelope system from physical accounts. You have accounts which is where the money is, and you have categories which is what the money is for. They have some good videos that should give you and idea of how it works. I suspect it will fit nicely with your current envelope system.

I have the old downloadable, one time fee version of YNAB and haven't switched to the new web based version.

Here's the Dave Ramsey version of an online envelope budgeting app, which I assume would work well with his system if that's what you're comfortable with.

Try mveople.com. There is an annual fee involved, but I think it is worth it!

Another vote for YNAB (I use the new, web-based version, and the Android app). It's an envelope system that can work with one or many accounts. Really nice interface, great customer service, easy linking to bank accounts, good reporting, etc. Seems to be a real focus on continuous improvements to the app and website, too. Well worth a few dollars a month, IMHO.

Budgetwise.io just opened up, similar to YNAB, looks promising.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
