Nonprofit Work After Retirement? Maybe You Can Make It Pay
« on: June 27, 2016, 04:27:22 PM »
Article from the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/25/your-money/nonprofit-work-after-retirement-maybe-you-can-make-it-pay.html

Interested in the topic, if it is still relevant if you remove all the references to baby boomers and "traditional retirement age"

All the examples listed in the article seem to be management type work, is that because of the age of the traditional retiree, the demographics of the NYT, or what non profits are looking for?

I'm partnered with several non-profit organizations in my current government job.  I've often thought that I'd like to help them out after FIRE, which would allow me to stay engaged with some of the things I like about my job, only without all the crap.  But if I went into management like the people in the article, I'm sure I'd have to put up with plenty of crap.  Also, I'd only want to work part time on a schedule that suits me, which probably isn't very conducive to getting paid.
