Non-retirement assets finally exceed mortgage
« on: January 29, 2016, 09:43:57 PM »
I got paid today and for the first time since "owning" a home my assets in non-IRA/non-401k retirement accounts exceed the amount left on my mortgage.

~$58k in cash + taxable investment accounts
~57k left on the mortgage.

Hopefully it stays that way, but with market swings it's likely the mortgage will exceed the assets again at this point. Looking forward to when this is a permanent situation.

Nice!  I am hoping to cross that threshold myself in about 2 years and I'm really looking forward to it.

Cool way to think about it!

I doubt we'll ever not be there, considering our net worth is more than any houses we'd consider buying currently but $50k+ at least right now. And the longer we delay buying a house the longer we'll have time to save in IRA/401k :)
