It's a lot easier just to put your back seat down and load the boards through and rest them on your center arm rest. I use an old plastic bag to keep the wood from scratching or leaving sap on my arm rest and seats.

But if you're the type of person who is going to lug lumber home like that, these guys probably got a huge kick out of the whole thing, whether it was the most efficient way to do it or not.  I approve!

Hit the brakes and the lumber becomes a projectile. There are safer and better ways to carry lumber in a small car. I can carry 8 foot boards completely inside my car using the pass-thru to the trunk. Boards that long would still be inside my car but would stick out of the trunk.

That's more than likely their "strong" arm anyway :)

That's so incredibly dangerous for anyone behind them. Even if nothing out of the ordinary happens, there.s nothing securing the boards in the middle except a little bit of pressure from someone's increasingly-tired arm. This is a major dick move without even considering the risks to the people involved or the fallout if an accident, a sudden stop, or even a hill comes along.

I carried about 400' of 2x4s and 1x6s in my sedan last weekend (in three loads) while redoing my basement.  folded the back seat down and had about 2' sticking out the back (12 footers).

I was serious because I've seen many loads "secured" this way one the rural higways. Granted not in such a nice car. But it's only funny if you think it wouldn't really happen.

It took me a second. I was trying to wrap my head around how somebody would transport a 400' long 2x4. Not to mention what you would use it for.
