Mustachian Leaders
« on: September 21, 2013, 09:57:43 AM »
I enjoy hearing about leaders who live frugally and simply.  Here are some interesting tidbits I have found recently.  Would love to hear about others.

"The pope said he wanted nothing wasted on this trip," said a spokesman for the local mayor. "Since everyone knows everyone here, the town hall contacted a man who owns a villa and asked to borrow his car, which is over 20 years old," he added.  (Pope Francis)

The President of Uruguay Jose Mujica has been dubbed by international media as 'the poorest president in the world'.  In his latest official declaration of wealth, he says he owns just two vehicles, a small amount of property and his farmhouse. He donates 90% of his salary to charity.

“We have a largely materialistic lifestyle characterized by a materialistic culture. However, this only provides us with temporary, sensory satisfaction, whereas long-term satisfaction is based not on the senses but on the mind. That’s where real tranquility is to be found. And peace of mind turns out to be a significant factor in our physical health too.” – Dalai Lama

I'm not a Catholic, but I think this new Pope rocks.  I wish him nothing but the best.
