Mustache Khakis
« on: February 16, 2016, 08:56:55 AM »
Anyone have any recommendations for decent work pants?  I usually wear business casual type stuff (button down long sleeve shirt and khakis).  Preferably wrinkle resistant.

I've been buying Dockers Signature for a few years, but they recently haven't been holding up well.  They tend to get shabby looking in about 6 months.

Not necessarily looking for the cheapest possible pants, but good value/quality balance.

Thanks,

Paul

L. L. Bean and Lands End both sell a plethora of office Khakis at high-moderate prices.

Unbeatable warranties if you are not satisfied.

I haven't bought but Costco beats the price of others and also guarantees satisfaction.

I buy Ralph Lauren pants from Macy's, when they have their Men's sales.  They're expensive (list is $125, but you can usually get them for ~$75 on sale) but they will last years (I dry clean them).  LL Bean stuff is good too, but a little less dressy.

I want to say I read about them somewhere on MMM, but Fire Hose pants I guess are something that should last forever.

I don't actually own any, but I've heard good things.

We go for the Old Navy khakis when they have their really big sale on school uniform basics. $12 a pair and a great fit. For a more durable khaki pant, Wrangler makes a pair that's pretty tough at about 17 a pair.

Jim Harbaugh buys his George khakis at Walmart for about $10.  YMMV.

Depending on profession, most places you can't/shouldn't wear pants with more then 4 pockets.  IE, not Jim Harbaugh's pseudo-cargo pants.

True.  But if you can work sans shirt, and make $5 million a year, you get to have all the pockets your evil heart desires ;)

I don't actually own any, but I've heard good things.

I would not recommend them for office use as they wouldn't look very professional, but I would recommend them for anyone who needs heavy duty/durable work pants

I own 3 pairs of these that I rotate out on deployments for work (I'm out in the field for 21 days at a time). I've crawled in crawlspaces, slid down roofs, climbed through attics, worn them in snow, extreme heat, basically beat the hell out of them.  Liquids bead up and roll off them for the most part. The only thing that I've seen beat them is tree sap. I have a few "stains" that I can't get out from tree sap, but other than that they are amazing.

I wear Carhartt khakis. They are durable and hold up to cycling daily.

I agree - except I don't crawl on mine - the fabric is too rough on my knees.  But I now realize I haven't tried since they've been washed a few times...
Duluth Trading also sells  DuluthFlex Fire Hose jeans.  They're more like dockers than jeans.  I was a bit disappointed when I first got them.  I like them, but they cost to much for dockers.
FWIW, I won't buy any more fire hose jeans (the non-flex) because I don't think they're worth the price.

I second Lands End.

90% of my work clothes are from them. I hate shopping and its difficult to find off the rack stuff that fits me well so the ability to order shirts and pants down to the 1/4 inch sleeve or inseam is nice. The quality tends to be pretty good and the prices are decent if you have a special code (sign up for emails and they'll regularly send you 15-30% off codes). Easy returns (even to your local Sears) if it doesn't fit.

1. I get 90% of my clothes from Uniqlo (similar to a Japanese version of the gap or j crew ).  I highly recommend their wool like dry stretch pants.  They look like wool are easily washable and are extremely light, dry quick, and pack small.  Their regular khakis are usually a great bargain as well. About 20 to $40.  Their sale section is a steal online, I usually buy them on sale.

2. Costco has their Kirkland signature gabardine wool pants for a more professional look.  They are dry clean only and about $40.  I do think wool looks much more professional than khakis and just as comfortabke. And this offers great value.

3. Lands end has fairly good quality as well although their regular fit is very baggy.  They do have a !ore slimmer fit option so look for those.  The fit here is a bit more conservative than stylish, a bit of a more 40 plus age look though....their signature line is  bit more stylish but I found Uniqlo to offer much better value.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
