MMM bumper sticker
« on: October 13, 2015, 12:57:28 PM »
Setting aside for a moment the fact that Mustachians rarely drive, I think MMM should consider ordering/selling an inconspicuous MMM bumper sticker.  As I drive to work from my paid-off home in my $3000 Buick Century, and I park amongst scores of luxury vehicles in the parking structure of Big Law law firm, I frequently wonder if the 2 or 3 other junkers belong to fellow Mustachians.  If there was a bumper sticker,  I would know.  And the blog would get free advertising.

A bumper sticker is pointless waste.  It serves no purpose, and is just random consumerist junk.  It would go entirely against the ethos of not spending money on shit you don't need, and would damage the environment for no reason.

If marking your car is really important to you for some reason, freehand paint it on your bumper with leftover materials from another project you were working on.

No. Not a pointless waste. Cheap promotion for the blog and lifestyle. I would take a dozen or so and put them everywhere.

Unfortunately, this idea comes up every once in a while, but nobody does anything about it. Somebody just needs to do it. Post the link here, and I bet you anything it will sell out.

Really?

How often do you look at a tiny bumper sticker on the back of someone's car and say . . . y'know what?  That bumper sticker is totally right!  I'm going to change my life now!

I've never done that. But I have looked up a website based on a bumper sticker I saw. The point of this sticker would be to drive people to the blog, and then comes the life change.

I've thought about the idea before - I think it would be cool to know someone was also a mmm fan, maybe meet some new friends as you would already have at least one thing in common. I was thinking a small sticker that you could put on a laptop or a bike or a car or whatever. Okay, don't laugh, but I was thinking something like the following...

Yeah, nah, don't bother with it.

MMM doesn't need to resort to bumper stickers to spread his message...unless they're on the back of your bike :)

Well, I can kinda support the idea if you're making your own out of shit you have laying around the house.  The idea of specifically manufacturing this to be sold is what really grates . . .

I like the idea and design but have never been a real fan of bumper stickers. If I was going to put one on my car it would have to be attached to a magnet so that I could easily move it from time to time with no messy clean up.

Go to local dominos or pizza hut or where ever, get their free refrigerator magnets with their name/phone number on...I get sent by mail by many from food merchants to local businesses. ask your 2yr to 3 yr old to color the front side of the magnet...Use a mustache template and cut the magnet with the scissor....Voila.
Personally I will never buy one...

indelible pen, 45 seconds, voila!

When you tire of it, then get the magnet. You could then put "I'd rather be biking" on that.

One of my pet peeves is bumper stickers with letters to small to read.
So a Mustache and
MRMONEYMUSTACHE.COM
across the bottom.
Maybe a dollar sign on each side of the mustache, just to peak interest.
        $ ~^~ $
I don't know how else to say FI in short bumper sticker lingo.

I had a 100 bumper stickers made about a lie a president made.
I think it cost about $0.80 ea and I sold them for $1.50, sold enough
to get my money back, still have about 30, but I stopped presenting them,
so no sales.
btw. I didn't put any on my car, just not something I do.

I'm honestly tempted, and mostly just so that I can have a sticker with a mustache made out of dollar signs on it. I did some quick google searching, and I could do them for like 20 cents a piece, so a dollar including envelope and a postage stamp.

Off topic, but I keep seeing mustache bumper stickers, shirts, mugs, etc. At first I assumed they were MMM related merchandise, but they're not (because we're having this discussion).

So what are they for? Can I use them or will I unknowingly be supporting some other movement I know nothing about?

How about some kind of subtle SR reference, like "50-75" or "50+". Except, people would all assume it's about age.

Before MMM, I thought it would be cool to have a bumper sticker that said, "I am the 1%" and the car would most likely have a value of $5,000.

After considering MMM, my final number is closer to 2-3 million instead of 10 million, which I think is close to the 1%.

I just did! lauren214, I just printed your picture, cut it out, and taped it to the inside of my hardhat. I can't upload pictures out here (they block it), otherwise I'd post one. Why inside? Because when I take it off and lay it down, that's what people see. Present without being obnoxious.

Now, for the rest of you whiners, get on it. Print one at work and tape it somewhere subtle, but present. Let us know who you are. Get on it!

lauren214,

I emailed Pete about your "sticker". Here's his response:

Cool PFHC! Hopefully the sticker uncovers some closet Mustachians in your travels.  We are getting more common - I met a stranger in the airport today who turned out to be a reader (or should I say practitioner?)

It seems we couldn't have a more incorrect audience for this 'product', but PFHC that is a great sticker design! I think you should do it.

What if we made it just a promo thing that MMM himself could promote...kinda like one of those "refer a friend" things. If you refer someone to the site and they resonate with it/start "practitioning", you could go fill out a form online and send them a free sticker or something as a follow-up/encouragement? We could add the words "I'd rather be biking".  MMM automates the delivery of them, and takes the costs as a business expense.

We could add some 'Nike' esque words like "Just save 50%." (see attached) Also ironic given Nike's stance in the consumerist world. (if you haven't heard the song "Wing$" by Macklemore there's a shameless plug for a solid lyrical masterpiece. And I'm not that big of a Macklemore fan otherwise. here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAg3uMlNyHA

If you didn't click on this link you should. It's really funny.
