I'm new here so maybe there's something I'm missing, but I don't understand why the majority of members don't share their general location posted next to their name?  For a lot of discussions the answers depend on "where you live", things like climate, local markets, regulations, etc.  It seems to me that more members would include a location along with their name.

What's your reason for omitting your location?  I'm sure there are various reasons, but I'm clueless & curious.  :)

One part privacy, but mainly, I think people just don't think about it. Most people don't seem to know how to edit their profile, and as far as including it in posts, I think people forget. We just tend to assume everyone is from where we are from =P

This is a very popular website, and I'd rather that my coworkers and especially my employer do not figure out who I am. Wouldn't be the end of the world if they did, but I rather that they didn't.

By the way, why don't you post with your real name, GreenEggs?   :-)

People tend to disclose a lot of very personal info on here (financial info, honest feelings about family, employer frustrations, etc.) that could represent some risk should their identity be known. For me, I could not be as forthright about my personal info and also disclose my location.  I live in a sparsely populated area and work in a very niche field.  I'd be concerned if I disclose my area it would be too easy to figure out where I work and my identity. If I lived in a bigger city or worked in a more common field, I might feel differently.

I understand folks need for anonymity.  I was just thinking the state or country would be nice.

Green eggs & ham was a good book, although I can't imagine eating green eggs.   :)

You can figure it out is someone starts talking about Sterling, or perhaps calls you mate.

Anyone in the "for" camp on gun threads is 99% chance of being USA.

It's funny when Americans talk about "the South". Where does that leave Australia?

It's all relative...:
"To Foreigners, a Yankee is an American.
To Americans, a Yankee is a Northerner.
To Northerners, a Yankee is an Easterner.
To Easterners, a Yankee is a New Englander.
To New Englanders, a Yankee is a Vermonter.
And in Vermont, a Yankee is somebody who eats pie for breakfast."

Green eggs where I come from (location in profile ;) ) is scrambled eggs cooked with herbs and sometimes spinach. Truly yummy! I don't know if that's what the good Doctor meant though.

That's great.  :)

In the South a Yankee is a Northerner.
A Damn Yankee is a Northerner that moves to the South and stays.

Bonus points if you have the pie with cheddar cheese
