Mega Millions

dude:
Do you play?  If so, do you fantasize about what you'd do with the money? And be honest, would you still be "Mustachian" if you won, say, $868 million (lump sum payout $495 million)?

OtherJen:
I don’t ever play and often joke that setting my cash on fire would be a more guaranteed source of entertainment. If I were to gain that amount of money, I’d remain Mustachian in terms of reducing my environmental footprint, etc. but would absolutely hire people to clean my home and landscape my property (which would be on the coast in San Diego county).

undercover:
Nope, I’d never play. No rational person would. I get that humans aren’t entirely rational, they’re also emotional, so I understand why some play for some “relief” or “hope” (see: religion), but it’s not for me.

Yes, of course my life would change. Only first class. I’d upgrade everything I own but not necessarily have more things. I’d definitely take more trips at a moments notice. I’d free up my time COMPLETELY by outsourcing everything I don’t give a shit about like cooking and cleaning. Would this make me happier? Hell no, except the outsourcing and maybe first class ;). I’d get back to work and then focus on distributing most of it to people I cared about (not giving them money, but helping them improve their life) and charities.

GrumpyPenguin:
I only play as part of an office pool.  And the only reason why I do that is that a coworker of mine said that one of our support staff used to spend a lot of money on lotto tickets, and had stopped spending/losing that quantity of money (on their already tight budget) since we started doing an office pool... so I throw in a couple bucks here and there and don't worry about it.

I do not fantasize about what I'd do with it if we somehow won.

same here.  i only started doing it in the last 2 years after many years of declining to play.  now i can afford to burn a few bucks in exchange for not looking like a weirdo who doesn't play well with others.  it's odd what people expect, as though me not playing somehow affects their enjoyment.
