Medical Frugality
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:53:13 PM »
Does anyone have any examples of medical things that need to be done that they are putting off because it costs too much?

I think I am on the other end of the spectrum right now, I just got nose surgery yesterday (I broke it and have not been able to breathe out of it for years and finally got it fixed although it hurts like a bitch and I am on all kinds of pain killers right now)and the out of pocket was supposed to be $3,800 after insurance. "Luckily" for me, I have already hit my insurance deductible due to other family members so by cramming it into this year I have $0 out of pocket minus lost work time.

I have been putting off Phase 2 of my son's braces. He had to wait about 3 years for some more of his permanent teeth to come in. I moved about 30 minutes away from the orthodontist, so I wasn't looking forward to making a trip to a different town every month or the extra expense. However, I called and made the appointment, and things are much better than expected. The opened a branch 5 minutes from my son's school on Mondays only...hurray! We also still had a $466 credit from phase 1 after the insurance paid AND his new dental insurance will pay $1000. I may not be out as much money as I thought! His appt is Monday, so I'll find out then.
