We had separate bank accounts before we were married, and still tend to use those same accounts as our main accounts, but added the other's name to the account. House and mortgage is joint. Did a budget long ago, but since our mortgage is 17% of our take home, we have a lot of slack, so don't really worry too much about our spending. So we basically have shared finances, but still tend to think of it separately, as in my bank account, his bank account.
