Make your own bean sprouts
« on: May 11, 2014, 03:36:31 PM »
I know everybody here loves lentils.  So I thought of y'all when I came across this article on how to make your own bean sprouts, potentially providing another serving variation for the little legumes.  If you would have bought bean sprouts anyway, this looks to be cheaper and also potentially eliminates a trip to the store.  I'm going hiking for two weeks in a bit and am excited at the prospect of fresh vegetables after a week away from grocery stores.

There's an accompanying article with some info on the potential food-borne illness risks:

I sprout my own.  They are so much fresher than the sprouts in the store and cheaper too.

Lots of good info on this site.  http://sproutpeople.org/growing-sprouts/

I do this as well. I find them awesome in salads and sandwiches .... gives a good crunch factor!

Certainly beats paying for them at the grocery store and they taste much better :)

This is so incredibly easy and cheap that it makes me ask, "Why are people hungry in America?"  Of course, I ask that every time I cook dried beans, eggs, rice, homemade bread, and a couple other super-cheap foods.

Ohhh, thanks for the reminder.   We actually got a special sprouter and seeds for a gift.    We used to use it like crazy, then it got too cold for them to grow well over the winter, and I forgot to take it back out.   Time to start some!
