Might I suggest leaving out a bag of popcorn that may or may not be sprinkled with Jalapeno powder?

Or maybe the classic Annoy-a-tron hidden in an enticing trinket?
(The classic random beep is priceless. I will forever remember DH's attempt at finding the source of the beep, and so will he.
Reminds me, I should go tell him how happy I am to have him as my life partner...)

Hahaha back in 2008 I bought an annoy-a-tron. I had a super annoying roommate at the time, and I hid it in his disgusting closet, then forgot about it.

One day, months later, he comes in my room completely satisfied.. He says, “for months I’ve had this stupid beeping in my room. It would come at different volumes, pitches, and intervals, and I could never find what it was, until I found THIS today,” and he pulls out the annoy a tron I put in his room haha.. He had no idea, nor ever suspected me..

Great times.

Imagine if it's really someone in HR and they're just blaming some guy while claiming they are patriots who could never harm a marine?

Wow ! What a horror story.
My biggest issue with my last cubicle job was work load and co-workers  slamming the metal drawer doors and slamming a huge stack of paperwork on their desk just to line the paper up frequently. They are not a judge in a court! I line up the paper work on my hand in mid air no need to slam. One hand holding on the side and one hand holding the bottom.

It's counter-intuitive but the quietness of the office makes  sudden noise a problem. Also the small space and walls bouncing sound and it's a sound box effect.   Noise was never an issue for me in a warehouse setting.

And it would just cost a few hundred bucks to make the walls sound-sucking (or thousands in a really big room), increasing concentration and work results...
But employers like soft skills, but not "soft" improvements.

Classic, nicely done.
