"Rebuttals to those reasons:
1. I get much utility out of the few hundred dollars it cost.
2. It offers me unlimited possibility to access any internet connected thing anywhere. It doesn't distract me, but aids me. I hardly ever make calls (though it is adequate at that), and IDK how you can claim a flip phone is better at texting. T9? Really? I don't play angry birds.
3. I've never had my smartphone stolen, so I don't worry about that.
4. I've never lost a phone, or had it fall in the toilet, or had the screen break, or anything, so I don't worry about it. Maybe I take better care of my stuff?
So all of those reasons don't have any sway for me.
The big reason why I prefer a smart phone over a dumb one though is that then I have a fucking COMPUTER. In my POCKET.
The INTERNET. In my POCKET!
I can't get over that. Having access to the world's knowledge from anywhere is amazing.
Plus, you know, Angry Birds. (Just kidding.)

Yes, it's "internet in your pocket"- my $20 flip phone can get internet access if, for some reason, I need it.
Maybe some people need internet access 24-7. I find that I don't.
I'm connected to the internet all day at work. I have internet access anytime I'm at home. There is free wi-fi access all over the place in large cities (which can be accessed by a sub-$100 tablet computer with no monthly fees). That doesn't give me 24-7 internet access, but it's pretty close.
On most days, about the only time I'm not connected to the internet is when I'm driving my truck (my wife's car has internet access- though I've never used it)- and I think it's best for the sake of humanity that I not surf the net while I'm driving :)
And it looks like I've messed up the "quoting" feature here. I guess that's why I'm still at "stubble."
