As I am becoming more engrossed in this forum, as both an active topic contributor and as a passive reader, I've made a great observation: Mustachians are damn respectful, intelligent, and constructive folks.
This forum has presented discussions about divisive topics such as politics, gender issues, race issues, rural vs. urban issues, single vs. married perspectives, people who love kids vs. people who don't want anything to do with kids, etc. and I've noticed that despite any debate or differences, pretty much all comments are constructive, respectful, and well thought out. We all may have strongly differing opinions and some topics may hit a soft spot more than others, but Mustachians seem to show respect and tact in all circumstances. Maybe the proctors of this forum do a fantastic job of weeding out the trolls and hateful commenters before I am able to read any of their posts but for the most part I find things to be very pleasant around here.
It's definitely a breath of fresh air compared to the mainstream. Sometimes I'll read some comments on a general news site like CNN, something from Yahoo.com, or even my local online newspaper and I'm quite disgusted at the hateful and hurtful comments I see people post in the comfortable anonymity of a screen name. After reading/seeing such drivel, I rush over here or to other frugality blogs for reprieve and solace. It reminds me that there truly are decent, respectful people in this world!
I don't expect many responses to this post as I'm not posing any question or dilemma. I just want to tip my hat to my fellow Mustachians and say thank you for restoring my hope in the goodness of people. Kudos to you all!

Where else can you get a respectful punch in the face?! :-)

I completely agree and am similarly grateful for the helpful, kind, humorous posts on this forum. I think we're all striving for some version of a life that's filled with meaningful experiences and relationships--not a bunch of stuff. I believe that mindset engenders a sense of respect for others and an honest willingness to provide advice to fellow frugal travelers.
Since mustachianism is counter-culture, and certainly counter to the prevailing consumption mindset, this forum is an inspiring reprieve from constantly feeling like the only person you know who ______ (takes own lunch, rides bike, cuts own hair, re-uses toilet paper, does own investments, maxes out 401K, uses human hair as dental floss, etc!)

There are definitely thread that have gotten out of control, but usually not in a hateful way, just continuing to argue back and forth when it's clear both sides are stuck firm.
Not going to drag up links, but no community is perfect ;)

Agreed, and well said.
It's a great community. And most Mustachians are even more awesome in person, from my experience!
