Keep an eye on your investments
« on: December 31, 2022, 09:33:16 PM »
I check on my investments at the end of the month.  I also create an end-of-year summary annually, so I can track the performance of our portfolio. I have the bulk of my retirement funds in a 401k with my former employer.  I just found out that they moved all my funds into a Target Date Mutual fund. They just moved them on the 27th of December. I previously had them in a cross-section of domestic and international funds of stocks and bonds.  I didn't ask them to move the funds and they did not reach out to me prior to the movement.  I compared the return of their Target Date Fund to the performance of my previous portfolio and it underperformed my previous fund summary by 7% in 2022.

I will reach out to them on Tuesday to see what the deal is. Needless to say, I am rather turned off by this unexpected move.  I will likely end up moving my funds out into an IRA at this point.

I already have a brokerage account with Vanguard, so I would prefer to move the retirement funds into another mutual fund company.  I guess I will be doing research next month.  I'm open to recommendations.

Fidelity.

And this is the risk of employer based 401ks, especially former employers. You missed the communications.
