Just for fun, What does your Forum Avatar represent??
« on: June 08, 2017, 10:07:52 AM »
I loved reading everyone's descriptions for what their forum names mean on this thread:

https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/welcome-to-the-forum/just-for-fun-where-did-your-mustache-nickname-come-from/

So, I thought it'd be just as interesting to know where your avatars come from!

Mine is pretty recognizable, so many recognize that it is Vault Boy from the Fallout series of video games.  I chose it because of how damn happy Vault Boy is.  He's got a huge grin, he is giving a big thumbs-up, and he's even winking slyly.  Why is this guy so happy???

The irony of Vault Boy is that you see his smiling face all over the place as you wander the wasteland of a post-nuclear-war world.  The juxtaposition always made me smile when I'd see him in the game.  It's like he was always there to lighten up a tense moment.

Of course, Vault Boy is happy because he's safe in a Vault when a potential nuclear war was looming on the horizon.  He shows that you too can be happy, but only if you are prepared for the Fallout!

Why I chose him?  Foolish Optimism!  It seems to suit me well.

ETA:  Frankie's Girl shared the true meaning of what Vault Boy is doing!  Much more interesting than just a happy guy giving a thumbs up during the apocalypse.

Found an avatar which matches my name. The huge handlebar mustache on the cowboy was very appropriate for this forum.

Not technically correct though, since I am an Indian from India and not native American.

There's a lot of bitching on these boards, especially around politics.

It makes me chuckle.

Why I chose him?  Foolish Optimism!  It seems to suit me well.

Oh wow... you don't actually get what Vault Boy is doing? Super cool cause here is the real scoop:

He's not giving a "thumbs up" sign (unless it's considered ironically, which I am sure he is). He's checking to see if he's outside of the fallout zone. In the age of atomic bombs, the "rule of thumb" literally was to hold up your thumb over the mushroom cloud created by the bomb explosion. He's not winking, he's gaging the distance. If you could cover the whole thing, then you were outside of the fallout zone and thus likely safe from being blown away/dealing with radiation.

So he's not being optimistic; he's checking to make sure he's not a sitting duck, and from the grin, I'd say he's outside the fallout zone...

The Azkaban prison numbers for Bellatrix LeStrange...I'm a huge nerd and into cosplay.

My first avatar was a silhouette of a man and woman on a tandem bike, but then I realized that he was doing all the work and that is just not how we roll.

I don't know the video game, so I'm not familiar with Vault Boy, but it was very interesting to learn about the "rule of thumb" in the atomic sense.  I had no idea of that.  Thanks for the info, FG!

Cool information!  I had never heard of such a thing.  Thanks for sharing!

It fits even better with becoming FI in this case.  If a financial catastrophe happens (workplace layoff, costly medical bill, large home repair, etc.), a good way to ensure you're always "outside of the fallout zone" is to be FI.

Haha, chiseled.

My avatar is from a work in progress, a hanging tapestry made of 500 US$1's and 500 Chinese RMB 1's, with words carved into them related to money in different languages. Many were contributed by friends and strangers when I asked them what they thought about, when they thought about money.

Fats Domino....

Big Easy is a nickname for New Orleans  that jazz musicians came up with.  It had to do with the playing style of New Orleans Jazz musicians versus Northeast Jazz musicians...

It seems that New Orleans musicians had a laid-back style versus the more Precision  styles of the north east and west coast musicians...

"Hey, where ya at?" "Me, playin' in da Big Easy!"

That's a neat idea.  Are there more detailed pictures?  How are you "carving" dollars?

So, no longer admiring?  Or did you succumb and buy it? :)

OMG!!!   LOL.  I told my wife once that if I could trade my face for any actor in the world, this would be it.  Ernest Borgnine in "The Wild Bunch"    Sam Peckinpah directed it and it's one of the bloodiest shoot-em ups ever made.

My wife said no.  LOL

Heres the link to the IMDB page on the movie.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065214/?ref_=nv_sr_1

And here's a link to the trailer.

http://www.imdb.com/videoplayer/vi3371958553?ref_=tt_pv_vi_aiv_1

And you HAVE to love any movie that stars Ben Johnson.  The only man in the history of the world to win a world rodeo championship, and an Oscar.

It's an actual photo of my user name.  Obscure old Canadian money that no one has ever heard of except coin collectors, and kids of collectors (me!).
Oh, damn! I always thought this was an old-fashioned word for band-aid! Lolz, #imadope.

I figured most people would think that, but used it anyway.  It's kind of a tribute to my Dad, who was also very mustachian.  When I introduced Mr. S. to the forum site, I challenged him to figure out who I was.  He knew immediately - my Dad gave him some Shinplasters just after we got married.

I always thought Shinplaster was a man....

Sorry Ms. Shinplaster

Well, I could still be a man.  : )    But no, I'm a white haired grandma who likes non-gender specific names.
