I also have a long list of inaccuracies, blatant contradictions and some rock solid fact checking that proves some of his statements to be completely incorrect.
Do you know what I'm going to do with this list? Crumple it up and throw it in the garbage. Because I'm totally buying in.
I only just joined this forum, and I didn't read many of the comments as I went through the blog. I can only imagine that there are people that nitpick MMM over the little things (as I was admittedly doing in my mind while I read. It is in my nature to question everything) - but those people would be missing the big picture.
Since I'm new, I'll introduce myself briefly: I'm a 44 year old male. Happily married with an 11 and 7 year old. In some areas I've always been a mustachian, in other ways - uh, not at all. Overall, I'd say I'm 70% mustachian with a wife that is about 30% (but says she is definitely willing to make changes). I'm a software engineer with a very good salary. My wife runs her own (new, but cash flow positive) business that from our home. We've always lived on less than we make, but in a very sloppy and inefficient way.
After reading through the blog, I was personally ready to pull a quick mustachian 180, but I know that my family is going to come along a little more slowly. My general plan is to start with things that are relatively painless, but show substantial (and measurable) rewards financially. A few of these painless changes have already saved us a ton of money and it really made my wife start to buy in. I'll talk about some of those changes in future posts, I'm sure.
The first REAL step for me is to know what I don't know - exactly how much we spend and where / why. I've set up a mint account to track everything. I've done a good job of tracking our overall net worth over time, but detailed tracking of our expenses has never been done*.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to being part of this community.
