ISO Warm slipper recommendations

My feet get very, very cold in the winter, and we keep the house very cold.  I can get the rest of myself comfortable pretty easily, but my feet are already uncomfortably cold and we aren't anywhere near the coldest part of the year.

I have a pair of Ugg brand slippers that were gifted to me, and I thought they would be great, but they don't work. My toes are still cold.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DOL0606/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I think it's because the vamp is so low, even though the ankle is more like a bootie.  I really need a bootie style slipper, and I'd prefer something with a fairly substantial sole so I can run  outside to take out the trash or grab something from my car.   

My mom is pushing for a Christmas list, so this seems like something I might pass on to her as an idea. 

If they are good quality and will likely last a while, I don't mind spending some money (or asking my mom to spend some money, which she generally does happily at Christmas).  Fun colors are a huge bonus, but I can live without that if necessary.

I have a pair of Haflinger's, for about 2 yrs now. Its a wool slipper with a rubber sole and ARCH SUPPORT.  We have hard wood floors and also keep it cool in winter.  Most slippers had my feet hurting after walking around the house or spending hours baking/cooking.  A quick run to the mailbox or to take the dog out won't ruin them due to the nice sole. I've also used wooly crocs, but couldn't find a good replacement once they wore out.

I recently got a pair of (real) sheepskin lined slippers and they’re great for keeping feet warm. Mine is slipper-style though since I only use them indoors. There are so many styles, perhaps you could go to a store a try some on to see what fits/is comfortable?

I wear Acorn brand fleece slippers and add fleece socks when my feet are really cold.  They have a nice waterproof sole so I wear them outside too. 

I wash the slippers (in a laundry bag) periodically and air dry on top of my dryer.  I have a few pair so I rotate them and they last for years.

Not cheap, but these work great http://featheredfriends.com/down-booties.html. I have something similar that is no longer made that I've had for probably 10 years. We got these for my wife a few years ago after a failed experiment with cheaper, but fluff filled instead of feather filled booties that otherwise looked similar.

I have pretty bad circulation in my extremeties. If I just put freezing cold feet into my slippers it will take a while for them to warm up (they will eventually). Much better to get your feet warm first by taking a warm shower, putting the slippers on as soon as you get out of bed, or putting a bare foot in the "crook" of your knee with your other leg bent (or whatever other warm part of your or someone else's body you can reach and/or be allowed to put your foot) until it warms up then straight in the slipper.

Every woman in my family has a pair now. You can flip the top bit up for down depending on how much warmth/coverage you want and they are made of genuine sheep. The wool on the sheepskin is lovely and long, so when you first put your foot in it feels tight but then the sole layer compresses to fit but the top layer is long enough to still reach your foot so you get proper all-round insulation. They have a good grippy rubber sole, so while I wouldn't recommend them for proper outdoor use I wear them all the time to put the bins out or pop out onto the patio to cut herbs for dinner. They appear to ship to America, Canada and Australia as well as the UK. And come in nice colours!

I would really really recommend them. I've had mine (in Spice!) for a few years and they're still going strong. Allegedly one can carefully machine wash them but I've never tried.

Sadtimes because a) they seem to be more expensive in America b) they really are awesome. If its about your mum spending $105 on you then could you get someone else to go in on a group gift? Siblings? Spouses? You go halves? If it's about $105 specifically on slippers, ask yourself how much a decade of permanently warm feet would be worth to you. Money does have subjective value. You're allowed to value not risking frostbite in your own house.

Another suggestion would be to get a pair of Ugg standard short boots...I think that's what they're called. I've read that in Australia they use them for slippers, and everywhere else in the world we wear them both as cosy, shearling-lined slippers and as outside footwear...as long as it isn't wet. A pair of shearling-lined slipper-boots is a basic for me--couldn't be without them--and I just pay what they cost. The OP will get years of wear out of them...well worth the probably $100 or so she will have to pay. I would just ask Mom to gift part of the cost, and then just pay the rest myself. If it was me, I mean.

And a real Mustachian would research the most suitable product for their needs, see if they can buy it second hand, see if they can buy one at a discount, and then buy the new one and relax in the knowledge that it was not a impulsive purchase, that it will bring true value to their life, and that their cost-per-wear will be minimal because they bought something they will wear daily for at least half the year and will last for as long as is reasonable to expect a pair of slippers to last for.

I reiterate my unequivocal recommendation to the OP of the Celtic Co slippers.

I recently got a pair called Heatkeep. The name says it all and their like walking on a pillow. Thats all i know being a gift BUT doubt based on who they came from were to expensive

When I feel the floor is particularly cold (uninsulated dirt crawl space), I have a pair of neoprene biking socks (intended for wet weather) that I put over thin socks.  If I need to go outside, a regular slipper sole can be put on, but I prefer the toe wiggle of just the socks indoors, and the neoprene does let me dash to the mailbox if the snow isn't deep.

I do wear thick sock.  I have some Smartwool socks, and some called "Heat Holders", which are great except they are so thick that slipper sizing is a problem.

I am looking for slippers to go over the socks.

I bought a pair of acorn slippers and they wore out really fast. It was disappointing. So now I just buy whatever looks warm at aldis and wear them with some of the many wool socks I’ve knit.

I’m always cold but my feet stay okay with layers.

I have had the same pair of cozy slippers for 10 years- received them as a Christmas gift.  I only wear them in winter, but still.  They say Emu Ridge on the tag and probably cost $20.  My feet stay cozy inside of them while wearing thick wool socks.
