Is there anyway to get free online directory assistance anymore
« on: September 27, 2017, 10:35:09 AM »
I searched for 2 hours this morning for a landline phone # for a long lost cousin. All the services
say free and then after minutes of wasted time for them to compile all the data, then they tell you the charge.
Any way to get a phone number free?
800-free411 does not work, I think the computer is misunderstanding the name.

If it is a listed number, calling 411 works for me.  I also used to use 1-800-555-1212 but I haven't used that in a while so can't say if it still works.

Spydialer, seems to be free, but I had no luck finding my person.
But, thanks I'll keep that handy.

You might try facebook. Nearly everyone is on it. Once you connect with your cousin, you can ask him directly for his number.

whitepages.com just gave me my mom's landline for free.  Is it possible your cousin doesn't have a landline or a listed number?

Agree with the Facebook thing - one thing it is really good for is getting back in touch with old friends and relatives.

You might want to give https://www.familytreenow.com/ a try. There's a disturbing amount of personal information available there, and it's all free. The good news is that you can opt out if you'd like to have your own information removed.

Yes, I did that, no help.
I did make contact with a relative and my cousin called me, so it's all taken care of.
Re: Facebook, I've been a little active lately trying to find friends from 40 years ago.
In the process I found an old message saying, "I have a genealogy project and I need your help."
I made this contact and he sent me a file of ancestors on my mom's side back to 1755!
I'm compiling additional information for his project. It's pretty cool.
btw, I was trying to locate my cousin to add his side to the genealogy project.
His son has already been working on his own, so there's a head start.
