Is there a way to call FreedomPop - They've been charging me
« on: August 19, 2016, 05:13:40 PM »
I signed up for the free service and apparently was auto enrolled into the $15 / month service.  I didn't notice the two charges for $45 (they do it once a quarter).

I opened a ticket about the billing error.  They then promptly closed the ticket 2 days later with no response.

Looking on their website, I see no way to chat or call them.

Anyone had any luck with this?  I'm probably just missing it, but they clearly want to make it hard to call them to keep costs down.

Pretty disappointed they closed out my ticket with no response.  Would have expected more from them.

When signing up for FreedomPop you need to be very vigilant to downgrade from all the stuff they auto-enroll you in for free* (*free for the first month, $$$ after that). If you find all the right buttons to press it really is free.

Yep.  They got me.  Hopefully I can get a refund as I've never even used the service, but they've charged me for quite some time and I missed the charges.  That's on me, but the other part is a bit tricky and disingenuous, but that's how a lot of companies do business these days.

Be careful and DYODD.

Oh yeah, I agree that they're super sleazy how they make you go through a bunch of extra steps to actually be on the free plan. Somebody has to subsidize the free people though.

You can always call your credit card company and dispute the charge.  They will shut-off the recurring billing on the spot

In my experience this often isn't the way to go. The company can keep billing you, and even if the credit card company claws that money back it's not as though your obligation to the billing company has been erased. They can send your account to a collections agency, which comes with its own raft of problems. No, far better is to get the company to stop billing you in the first place.

Yeah, you have to be really careful with FreedomPop.  And their customer service sucks.

But, I mean, you get what you pay for.  We used free phones for a long time when we were in the states, and super cheap home internet ($10 for 12GB), so we very much enjoyed their offerings.  We were just wary, and as the saying goes, if you play with snakes, eventually you'll get bit.  Sorry you got nipped.  :)
