Interesting MMM Google Trends
« on: December 13, 2016, 06:48:14 AM »
So this morning I was playing around on Google Trends, I recall an article from a few years back about how Google Trends was used quite accurately time the market by looking up inherently positive or negative terms about the market. I was not trying to market time but searched "index funds" to see what the current trend is. The first thing that comes up in the "related searches" box is.... MMM!

I was a little surprised to see that Canada ranked higher than the US in the Interest by Region section so dug into both countries a little more. Kind of interesting results.

I am also happy to see my home ranked highly, although I suspect the skewed rating may be due more to low populations and average interest vs extremely high general interest. This would also explain the high rating for Wyoming. Either that or farmers are just very frugal.

I don't know about google trends, but regular search is highly dependent on your personal search history, so the fact that you visit mrmoneymustache.com after searches makes results found on mrmoneymustache.com much more likely to be ranked higher for you as it's a sign that you find results on this site relevant.

The index trends are cool though. Not surprising given the growth in index investing lately.
