Index Funds Getting Too Big
« on: December 09, 2018, 11:17:45 AM »
Hi All,

First post on this blog.  With the strategy of investing in low cost index funds stressed by MMM was wondering what thoughts are on John Bogle's warnings that index funds are getting too powerful and its future implications...

Thanks for the thoughts!

I too think about this more and more.  I wonder who will hold corporate boards accountable (think GE)?  That and our modern crop of "activist" shareholders seem like a bunch of butthole hype man celebrities using influence instead of detective work to profit.  Nelson Peltz excepted, he's a beast.  I try not to make predictions about the future but it seems that without a strong shareholder check and balance you are going to see a lot garbage getting a beautiful veneer.  Then someone will discover the rot and we will find out the extent of the damage (depth of the rabbit hole).  That said, I love index funds and I use them.
