I came across the income calculator for the US, and am curious about the income profile of the folks who frequent the forum. i think having hard data makes it easier for everyone to be more self-aware.

The percentiles are backwards, or wrong word. It's either 99th percentile, or top 1%.
Relatedly, I tried to find out what the 1st percentile income would be, and the site couldn't go that low. Making $1/yr still puts you in 2.8.

Are you asking for wages only or for work+investments?

And, investments can be broken down to dividends. capital gains and unrealized capital gains, and then
in taxable accounts and non taxable accounts.

With the wife's newly acquired job we are at the 97.9 percentile, woohoo!
We were at the 95.4 percentile on my income alone.
Just a few years left baby!

There’s an age one too. And household if you have more than 1 income earning adult.
I’d be curious to see this by age and gender. I thought a 2%er would be richer than me lol. But then it’s income not net worth.

Found it although it’s 2016

99 percentile on single income. Not bad for just some chump with an associates degree!

the website says data at the top percentile is removed. it seems data at the bottom percentile is missing as well...

in order for the calculator to work, whatever is considered taxable income in the US.

This thread won't give you an accurate picture of the forum. It will be skewed high. People with high incomes are more likely to answer this.

Top 50%, but just barely. BIG WHOOP.

you're right but it does give a picture. that there are quite a lot of us who are relatively or very well-off.
my thoughts is .. for the people who earn more, perhaps face punches are needed in the discussion threads. for people who earn less, perhaps more discussions on options to improve their situation to the point where savings is possible. i found this thread super inspiring for people who are struggling with low income. https://forum.mrmoneymustache.com/journals/whitetrashcash's-journey-from-the-trailer-park-to-wealth-and-happiness/
that said, i love this forum as there are so many things to learn from the journals/posts and responders are very often trying to help.

the stats is for personal income though there is also a household income chart.
-
I clicked on through and used the household calculator.

Ours is currently 79.6th percentile, but that will change a ton by next year. I am finishing school and already know my starting salary at my job once I finish, so if my wife gets no promotions or bonuses in the next year it will put us up above 90th percentile. I won't know what to do with all the money once I reach the top 10%!!
