So save weight, and the environment, Tesla fans had to have their sense of humor surgically removed.

I'm not a very big Tesla fan (as can be seen in other threads), and in 100% agree with those saying that EV's saving the environment is a red herring; personal vehicles are just plain sh*t for the environment, full stop. So even if EV's are amazing relative to other cars (they are), they are fighting a losing battle environmentally.

With that, I miss the self congratulatory humor IMO because most of it is wrong. In reality the Cybertruck is less of a "cheeto carrying bro" vehicle than the insane pickups being released these days. The hood and site lines are lower and most 1/2 ton trucks. The efficiency is incredible. The body material has actual utility. It's lighter than the F150-lightning and Rivian R1T. I have yet to see an R1T on the road actually using the bed (or most modern trucks for that matter that aren't contractors), so complaining about it not being completely utilitarian is falling on deaf ears. It would fit a 4x8 with tailgate down exactly the same as an R1T or Tacoma or any of the other short bed vehicles

The Hummer EV is a much bigger bastion of excess; it would easily win the "pointless vehicle" category when compared to a Cybertruck. The cybertruck is an incredible practice in engineering on it's own and Tesla have some crazy innovation going on with it. Vehicle companies have a lot of catching up to do to.

I just don't really get it; I get criticizing EVs and personal vehicles, but the Cybertruck is pretty awesome as a standalone piece.

If only companies like Tesla could use their norm disrupting, free spirited minds to invention something truly impactful like accessible nuclear power or public transit rather than just an evolution of personal vehicle consumption.

It's a culmination.

Elon / Tesla is infamous for overpromsing and delays. Tesla is also famous for designing GOOD LOOKING CARS like the Roadster and Model S. (Opinion: Model 3 is cute but a bit snub-nosed for my personal taste, while the Model Y seems like an inflated Model 3, but does not look like a good design to me.)

The Model X sparked some controversy because it took on the falcon wing doors. There's some argument to be made of their merits, but it was an unnecessary inclusion that sparked delays and still has questionable reliability.

Pile on Elon's horrible decision-making with Twitter, his long list of politically incorrect statements, and then you get... The Cybertruck design. Just a bizarre and very polarizing decision. That by itself isn't a "bad thingゥ" but stack it up with all the rest and there's room here for humor.

I mean, for most people, there's room for humor. It feels like the Tesla fans are incapable of joking right along, and feel compelled to defend the corporation. Which in itself is worth for more humor. Like, who's hurting you personally by making fun of a dickhead like Elon, and the weird decisions put into Tesla's Cybertruck design?

There's room for humor, it just has to be funny! Part of it is a personal opinion thing; it's like saying someone doesn't like humor if they say they don't find Big Bang Theory or Jeff Foxworthy funny.

It seems that most in this thread were as giddy to jump on the inevitable Tesla apologist as they were about the original "comedy", and all parties took the bait, hook, line and sinker with it!

And all of the "non-Tesla apologists" found the jokes thus far funny. Why jump into a joke thread to say "it's not funny" unless it's legitimately in poor taste / offensive / hurting an oppressed class? Are Tesla fans a protected class? People with the money to be early adopters on electric cars...

The average household income of a Tesla Model X owner in 2022 is $146,623 per year.

...many Tesla owners are in California where the cost of living is higher than average.

Males own 77% of Model S vehicles and women own 23%.

88% of current Tesla owners own their own home.

Tesla owners tend to not have children in the home.

The ethnicity of Tesla owners skews toward Caucasians, at 87%.

Wealthy white men without children living in California. Boy we should be careful not to make fun of Tesla... might hurt someone's feelings.

I am not a Tesla apologist and I did not find it funny... Check the Tesla and EV threads for my many diatribes against them...

As for why jumping in? Legitimately good question. Probably should not have and just let the circle continue

Call it a draw?

Ha yes! I mean this thread is in Welcome and General Discussion instead of Off Topic - maybe it has to be better refined only the funniest of pro-Mustachian messages that make all thread readers feel welcome... (but it certainty felt like... enjoy some teasing and silliness). There's no winning here. Winning would be making each other laugh. And you and I are failing miserably! :) I mean, I started this comment with "ha" so I think you're winning 1-0 against me.

No I think their sense of humor becomes a subscription feature after the first 12 months of Tesla ownership... ;)

People that spend a lot of $$ on cars are fools, I think we can all agree on that.  But many people are going to buy big ass trucks, no matter what.  Since that is true, it's better to have those vehicles be EV's than ICE vehicles.

Sorta related, how does a Cybertruck owner manage to get liability insurance for a super-fast indestructible tank / razor blade?

Tesla insurance if available in your state would likely be the best bet.

I tried googling and the numbers are really off. Internet is saying for model 3 it is like 267/month. I'm paying more like 67/month.

Ugh, that article was brutal to read, it felt like it was written by AI.

I got through it though, as repetitive and meandering as it was, it did contain some interesting details.

My wealthy very NOT white immigrant wife (came to the USA with nothing, but busted her butt to succeed like most immigrants do) has driven a Tesla in Texas for 5-years.  I'm a wealthy white guy who grew up in poverty who drives an ancient truck.  My next truck will likely be a Tesla Cybertruck (i won't know for sure until I get to play with one).  I guarantee it's going to be more fun to drive than my Silverado.

Reuters has always kind of been that way. Great source of low bias information, but always pretty dry and matter of fact.

Are they usually that repetitive? That's what made it seem like AI.
