I want this over with already!
« on: January 09, 2014, 02:35:07 PM »
I'm kinda bummed today. I'm going over the "budget" for the year and see all these expenses that I don't want. I feel like I'm drowning in a pit of endless chaos and uncertainty. I'm trying to do so many things all the time but never seem to get anywhere.  I feel like I have no help sometimes, I'm stuck at my dead end job, we have bills up the ying yang and I feel like we are going nowhere fast. "Good debt" my ass.

And it's so frustrating not being on the same page financially as my husband.

I'll stop there. I'm sure I'll perk up later today after I go home. That there ends my rant I suppose.

Yeah, I hear you--probably most of us have been there at one time or another. Try to do one nice thing for yourself today--if you can get a little fresh air outside, that can work wonders in calming down your head and taking a fresh look at things. Then you can think better, and start slowly, one thing at a time, working on your finances. You are sounding overwhelmed right now, beating yourself up too much--just slow it down and take it step-by-step in terms of working on the finances.

Thanks lhamo and lizzzi. I was in a better mood when I got home, then tried to get DH to at least have some say in our budget for the year. The regular expenses were obvious. But when it comes to budgeting for things like birthdays or restaurants, he says, "It's too early to budget for that, you don't know what we would spend." Well duh, but the point is to not spend more than you budget, but we still need a budget first.

GAH!

Slow down.  You are undermining yourself by trying to do too much at one time.  Pick one thing and focus on that for the next two months.  Get it under control.  Build up your systems for keeping the spending at a reasonable level.  Track your results.  Once you have that thing mastered, you can move on to the next goal.

If you do this consistently over the next year you will likely have made progress in 6-10 different areas.  How cool would that be?  It feels like you are moving slowly, but by the end of the year if you can cut monthly spending by $50 in 10 different areas, you will have a $6000 leg up on your 2015 budget!

I agree with this poster-  its intimidating to have to tackle a whole bunch of challenges all at once.  Pick out 1-2 items (even if they are small things) to tackle first.  Once you get those knocked out it gives you momentum and a sense of accomplishment.   Then repeat.  After 6 months or a year when you look back you'll be amazed.  Don't get discouraged.  As long as you're working on getting 1 or 2 things dialed down you are on the right track making progess!  We're here to help/support- you can do it!

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
