I want an electric commuter scooter!!

Electric scooters look so handy. I would love to have one to help me make my 6.5 mile commute to work each day and it could also be a great hack for going to events downtown where I wouldn't have to sit in the clown traffic or find expensive and sparse parking. I'm looking at a few online like UScooter but I am having trouble confirming if most of these can be "kicked" home if you run out of battery.

A while back I bought this little Freedom electric scooter for $175, but it won't go far enough on a single charge to be of use to me. Plus, it is heavy and can't be folded and carried with me somewhere.

Anyone familiar with these machines? I mainly want one that will go at least 10 miles on a single charge, is foldable, lightweight and compact to carry.

I wonder what Walmart does with the electric riding shopping carts when they get older and more decrepit than the riders?

Rebuilt, one should have plenty of torque for grunting up hills and its got the built-in reserved seating you want wherever you go.

You would only have to dismount and stand up when the national flag paraded by, which is kind of uncommon.

I would definitely like an e-bike, but I really want something that can be compact and carried in a bag if needed, like if go downtown. Also want something easy to throw in the car.

Wow, so I actually bought one! While considering that Uscooter Eco, I ran across their more powerful Uscooter Booster on ebay for about the same price. I contacted the company and they offered to discount a brand new Booster in the color I wanted to $739, shipped. Big, big purchase for me...! I thought about it for a couple of days and just pulled the trigger today.

I feel kind of deserving of a facepunch for dropping so much cash on a single purchase, especially when it is about one week's wages for me. But if I make good use of it, I think it will pay for itself. Even though it is not a bike, it would be more active and less cushy than driving a car for short distances and could help me squeeze some more life out of my 14 year old car. The thought of being able to avoid parking garages downtown alone is quite thrilling to me.

I find 18-20MPH on my bike with 26" wheels to be pretty darn fast. I don't think I would be comfortable going that fast on a scooter... Maybe you have fewer rocks and things on the roads/paths near you.

A scooter is going to be limited to in-traffic lanes, and may not be a good idea for faster roads.

An electric bike can use bike lanes, bike paths (depending on the area... though nobody really cares unless you're passing MAMILs on the weekend), etc.  It's much more flexible than a scooter, and your range is well within what a sane ebike can manage.

I got one a few years ago, sold it for a loss. Before i got it i did not realize just how intemidated I would be riding on the roads with it. so small, so slow ug. I thought i would enjoy it more.

Same here, actually. I got the scooter and now that I've tried it, I feel pretty insecure on it and don't feel I have the dexterity to control it well on the open road. I'll probably wind up selling it.

I think that is what I need. If my commute was flatter and more of a straight shot, I'd just regular-bike it, but there are some significant hills and major roads to cross, so I think an electric-assist bike would be great. I just don't know now if it would be better to have a kit added to my current bike or buy a whole e-bike.
