I'm finally jumping in...
« on: December 31, 2014, 08:54:35 AM »
I've been following the forum and reading MMM off and on for a few years now and I'm finally taking the plunge.

I'm a little old...40.  I'm a little frugal, but need help and accountability to reign it in.

I'm more focused than ever.  I'm more determined to succeed than ever.  I have more money than ever.  SO, this is my year to really batten down the hatches and get my crap together.

My goal is full retirement in five years.

So, here's a little about my situation.  My husband and I just got a married a couple of years ago.  We maintain separate finances and will continue with that because it's working quite well.  I have three kids (twins are in college and a 9 year old). My budget needs slimmed down by A LOT.  I'm pretty sick over how inflated my costs are right now.  I'm working on it.  I do obsess a bit over money and finances.  It appears that I spend a LOT of money on my kids.

My current budget is $3000 per month.  I know.  It's VERY high.  My goal is to knock this down by $500 a month.  My strategy right now, is to dump all of my extra money into my personal investment account.  Just basic Vanguard funds with 60/30/10 split.  I may diversify a bit when I have a little more money to invest.  More bonds for less risk since I will need these funds rather soon.

I'm going to continue reading the forum for tips and advice.  Any advice anyone has for me, please feel free.  I have thick skin, so no worries there.

Welcome - sounds like you're looking for a reader case study in the "Ask a Mustachian" thread.  Need more details to give concrete suggestions.

Also the journals are great for a longer-term discussion / accountability tool.
