Has anybody ever read the book, "How to Live Well Without Owning a Car"? It's a book I read several years ago that I just realized is very Mustachian. Written by Chris Balish in 2006, published by Ten Speed Press. Very informative and even humorous - if you know anybody dragging their feet on this issue, this would be a good book to convert them.
In the first part of the book he details all the reasons why having a car is sub-optimal: finances, health, environment, quality of life, etc. And he tells his own story of accidentally finding extra money in his bank account when he had to go without a car for a month.
The second part of the book talks about how to live well without a car: move close to work, ride a bike, carpool, mass transit, how to dress for walking or riding, etc. Tons of light-hearted, practical advice.
It's really a profound book, even for people with 6-person households, like me. Even though we are not able to go completely with a car (we have four teenagers) I am now extremely conscious of our driving, and how to reduce it.
TL;DR - read this book, it's super awesome!
