I suppose it could vary by state, but where I live you would just sign the title over to your DD, and in the "sale price" box on the title just write "gift". Then DD would need to register the vehicle in her name. If "gift" isn't an acceptable sale price in WI, perhaps selling it for $1 would meet the letter of the law and keep taxes super low

I'm sure you can just google "gifting car to family in WI" and see the specifics for your state so that it's done by the book.

Here you go, looks like there's a sales tax exemption for family transfers to children: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/online-srvcs/title-vehicle/faqs-purchase-price.aspx

Unless you're ok with people being able to figure out who your daughter is, and by extension who you are, you might want to edit out your second paragraph. That's some pretty specific information that seems like it might be somewhat easy to figure out, and it's not terribly relevant to your question.

Thanks, I did that and just took down. In our State you simply write Zero Dollars in the box and with same last name its a non-issue really.

We just did this (it was the car dd had been driving since she was in college) and it was really easy. The people at the title office didn’t even raise an eyebrow, so they must do it a lot.

For info for others in other states: In Massachusetts, there is a form that both parties sign acknowledging a family transfer.  It's on the MassDot/RMV site.  For the title, you sign and put zero for amount.  This would be the case even if one was paying the other for the car.  I've done this a number of times with both my mom and DW did it with her dad.  The one time we put an amount because we were buying, the registry person was nice and crossed out the $3500 I put in and wrote a zero and told me next time to do that.
