Average calculated over the last 2 years is $273. Dividends, interest, and realized capital gains.

About $35,000 in dividends and about $45,000 in a military pension, plus whatever capital gains are.

WINNING!!!  Congrats!

I could be wrong but I am guessing this is annual not Monthly.  The top Active Pay grade is 15k/month.  The maximum multiplier for military pension is 102%.  60 or so special duty extra pay do exist like hazard duty pay but I can't imagine any of those are enough to get to 45k/month.

Military Pay Grid's are all available online and the top Active Pay grade is an 0-10 with over 41 years of service.

About $35,000 in dividends and about $45,000 in a military pension, plus whatever capital gains are.

In September?

We lost roughly the average annual Canadian family income. It was a bad month, I was sad.

$7.21 last month.  Hopping for closer to $8.00 this month (will know tomorrow) after bank spots my October interest earned.

Same!

Yes, these are annual numbers.  Oops.  Wouldn't it be nice if they were monthly?!?!

About $700 from rental house 1. We get an extra $500 + $300 principle payment. Repairs average $1200/year or $100/month. We hope to increase this to 1500 within 1 year. Rent is going to going up by $100-$150 on rental house 1 on the next lease. We hope to move out of our current house and rent it out for an extra $650 + $150 principle payment. If repairs average $1200/year, we should be at $1500 total by next year. Once this happens I told my wife that she only has to work part-time and no longer has to work full-time. She just joined my insurance this month in preparation for this transition within the next year. We will most likely buy another house that needs a little work in the 110K-140K range.

One of my larger stock holdings just announced that they are increasing their dividend 14%, giving a nice boost to my passive income stream. This is why dividend growth investing rocks!

$.96 last month!

I did check into my dividend income, at this point it looks like it's between $100-$500 quarterly in my retirement accounts. So I guess theoretically I'm at $30-$160/month...I think I gotta keep working a while.

We are currently at $6080 in dividends per month. Just got raises from EMR and SBUX last week and BP the week before. I was not expecting the BP increase with the latest ruling, but I will take it. Expecting raises form ABT, BMY and MRK by the end of the year. That should take us up another $30 or so per month.

Another $878 per month in my IRA, which gets reinvested automatically.

Well, I multiplied my stash by 5% and divided that by 12 (months) and came out with about $1,400.00/monthly.  This probably isn't the correct way to do this.

That's very nice indeed. Would you consider sharing your portfolio?

I think the question is how much actual passive income you have coming in right now, rather than the amount you could potentially draw from your stash.

I don't know what mine is--not enough to live on yet. I am trying to think of a way to increase it by 4-500 per month.

Sure, our portfolio consists of the following. The first five are the largest holdings.

MO, PM, XOM, GPOR, TOT, ABT, ABBV, BMY, BP, CBKM, CCL, PSX, COP, CVX, D, EMR, HSY, JNJ, KO, KRFT, MCD, MRK, PEP, LMT, PG, SBUX, WMT, YUM

I don't care to own tech stocks. CBKM is a small community bank and the only bank stock we own. GPOR was a spec stock that has grown into one of our larger holdings. All the others are large cap dividend paying stocks.

Just over £1,400 in rental income and £50ish in interest payments. Dividends are held in my pension funds and reinvested.

We've recently cleared most of our btl mortgages. Now we get given this money every month with minimal work and minimal expenses. It's like magic really (no, not being facetious, I really do marvel at it every month!). Free money :)

Thank you! I own some MCD and ABT/ABBV, too. I'd like to have more dividend growth stocks, but my husband prefers index funds, so we are mostly doing that. Are you buying now that things are expensive?

No problem! The last day that I did some buying was Oct 16. Between Oct 9 - Oct 16 I added to BP, COP, CVX, EMR, JNJ, MCD, MRK, PSX and YUM. BP is about the only one still slightly attractive. I would not hesitate to buy some when it gets closer to $40, just make sure it doesn't become your largest holding.

I have owned ABT/ABBV since before the split and I'm quite happy with both.

I rarely sell my positions. This year I sold two (OAS and FE) 2013 I sold one (E) 2012 I sold two (CHK and DE) 2011 I sold none.

About $1500/ mo.  We live on 4 acres and have a large pole barn that we rent out space for storage.  We also rent out our basement apartment and a single-family rental property.  It all nets about $1500/mo give or take.  The more passive income you have coming in, the less you need to save, which worked out good for us because my DH and I never really made a whole lot of money.  But we live frugally and well.

$375/mo from dividends and capital gains in my taxable accounts.  I could finally calculate this now that Vanguard posted the estimated capital gains payouts for the remainder of the year.

Would likely be better to have more tax efficient funds in my taxable accounts though, and I'll need to up my estimated tax payment since I was figuring on less!

John_Snow, and any other Canadians on here investing for income, how much do you think could be safely generated monthly with $500,000 at this stage? My wife and I are looking at a few strategies going forward with a bit of a downshift.

We plan to earn a minimal amount doing odd jobs (maybe $10-15,000 each per year) and combine this with dividend income and a paid off house. What could we realistically add to this pot in your expert opinions?

Our theory is that the low income, and dividends would make this a fairly tax advantageous strategy. Hoping to have maybe a total of $40,000 CDN per year after tax. Location would be Ontario or maybe New Brunswick.

Thanks!

About $120/month for me. Does anyone else play the I could be fi in X country game with themselves? I havent found a place to live yet in the world though. When I hit 500 a month, I can live in China. Then when I hit 1000 it'll be to Latin america. And I keep playing this game until I make it back to the U.S.

Kind of my backup plan for my mid life crisis at 45 or 50 but I plan to be fi by that time. At least I will have a list of places I can be Fi in.

$139 interest
$446 for vanguard fund
-$1875 for a rental property
So I guess zero is the answer!

Strangely at the moment, my taxable and investment accounts are both generating around $215 a month for $430 total.

There is not much "passive" about investment-driven income investing right now...  With a record high stock market and artificially low interest rates, it seems most of the income funds we're in are making little defensive moves to prepare for the return of "normal" interest rates.   For example, the real estate funds I have are "shelf registering" to be able to issue new shares (presumably to prop up their cash positions down the road when the share price drops at the next interest rate hike) and some are tightening their distributions a bit (a muni-fund "MHI" I own trimmed it's distro 10% last month).   And for folks who like MLPs in the energy sector, there's an opportunity brewin to "buy income" at some fantastic prices since the oil glut is causing fear selling (which is overreacting a bit since these funds are generally for financing and managing the pipelines that move natural gas and other petroleum products).   They earn money on the "flow" of energy regardless of the price of the "stuff" that goes through the pipe).     The best "income" producer is Procter and Gamble stock held since 2001 that now generates 10% annually on my original principal plus has a very nice increase in principal value.  So like Warren Buffett says, "buy when fear is rampant" and "hold forever".

The best increase in passive income has been to drop expenses after reading this forum.   So far that "found income" is just under $500 a month that going into our mortgage to compound the "passive" income effect (from reduced interest/increased equity).

Spoonman did a version of this in his journal.  He had a chart with lines indicating places in which he could be FI.  He only had a couple different places, though.  It might be fun to make a similar chart with several different international locations.  I hope you will post it if you do something like this.

Assuming about a 10% return on my equities, somewhere around $2500 a month with some variations.  I'm thinking when/if that number hits 3500 or so, can discuss FIRE with my wife.

I'm mostly just in awe of what you and your wife are doing.  Me--I'm twice as old as you but have never been out of the US (except for Canada).  And I would need lots of encouragement to travel the world--as I would most likely be doing it by myself (and am female).  In any case, you and your wife are inspiring--I'm so glad you blog about your experiences.

This year was good, so about $1,025/Month. However if you are looking at the realized gain, Dividends, then only about $460/month. Overall I am pleased. This year was much better than the last in terms of capital gains.

I would like to get into the real estate market but I have cold feet and there can be so many complications (I'm in NYC).

About $400 per month from renting out our guest suite.  (varies, as utiility costs vary, while we charge a fixed rate).

This is a new thing for us, and (1 week in) is working well.

Our passive income on a monthly basis is currently at around $3,600.  The interesting thing is that this is before tax.  After tax this is more like $2850 at our current income levels.  Once we FIRE though, it will be close to the $3,600 since we will be under a threshold for taxation!

1000x thank you.  We would be happy to provide lots of encouragement :)

+1.  My wife and I plan to do a similar thing (likely right down to the overseas baby), so it's nice seeing you guys trailblaze (and share the financials that go along with it).  :)

Thanks arebelspy, sounds like a great plan! :-D

Hopefully the blog gets more interesting over time as we add more countries.  10 years from now it will be great to look back and see how much we spent in each location
You guys are amazing.  I showed my mom your blog to help convince her she could travel outside the US now that she is retired, and how different it is than travel while you are working. However, convincing her to be frugal has been a ten year process (still a work in process) so we will see.  Having other people show it can be done has been so helpful.

I have a few side hustles I've started including a blog about living a rich life (both financially, experientially and however you may define "rich" to yourself).

My index funds reinvest dividends and interests, so don't know the exact numbers, but since I just started investing 8 months ago, it's not much.
From my bank accounts I got a total of 1,47€, so about 0,12€/month.

FI here we come! :)

I plan to retire from the military in 3 years.  At that point I will earn $7,772 plus some portion of that will most likely be tax free due to VA disability or I may earn more if I make the disability threshold for concurrent receipt.

Sorry for going off topic.
But your (header) images look awful because of their low resolution. And I hope you have the rights to use them, because it sure isn't stated anywhere.

Just saw your disclaimer regarding the images.

Thank you for the feedback.  Which images are you saying look awful?  They look fine on my phone and laptop.  Maybe it's a beauty is in the eye of the beholder thing?  Looking for honest feedback.  Thanks

I will update earlier numbers. According to the 4% method, I have $30 to live on every month. However, if you include SO's SSDI, it's about $600/month or about 20% of what we need.

I'm sorry to say they look bad on my laptop too. You may need to find some higher resolution images.

The giant images on your home page are all pixelated (blurry) due to their low resolution.

EDIT: Apparently this was answered on the third page I didn't realize existed.  Whoops.  :)

It is close to the end of the year so I calculated our actual rental earnings and then added a hypothetical 72t which brings us to $2455/mo passive income. We have no immediate FIRE plans and our primary residence is leveraged at 3.875% for 27 more years.

On a good note I like to track the monthly rental income compared to our expenses and every month this year except April and October (our property tax months) our rental income pays all of our basic housing expenses - mtg and utilities and then some.

FIRE plans are on hold at this time due to my health issues, once those are cleared up and I am back in action I will re-assess our plans going forward.

I just calculated the dividends the other day.  It was fun.

Our net worth is growing $4042/year or approx. $336.90 a month from dividends.

In addition, I have been writing options for income (this is not totally passive, I consider it my stock market alternative to real estate rents, and averaging about $650 / month. (it varies though.)

So…

$336 - dividends
$650 - options income
--------
$986 / month income.   It is kind of exciting.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
