I'm curious how much everyone pays for cell phone service. Feel free to mention features, area, and provider if you like. If you have more than one phone on the account, put the amount per phone.

I pay $22.40 after tax for a basic talk and text plan through Chatr in Vancouver, Canada. I bought the phone separately, and have no contract.

I recently switched to an MNVO here in Tokyo to get a cheaper plan. Current plan is about $27/month for voice and 3Gb of high-speed mobile data, after which data is unlimited but throttled to about 200kbps (which I have tried and is not too bad, if like me you are an older guy and remember what it was like using a 56K or slower modem.) Incoming calls are not charged, outgoing calls are charged at about 20 cents per 30 seconds. Texts are about 3 cents each.

I do very, very little voice and text, so it's a pretty good service for me. The big three mobile operators here charge about $60-80 monthly for their standard voice and data plans.

There are definitely valid complaints from folks about aspects of this service, but for me for now, it it works fine.  Google voice free at home and with wifi, plus  200 mins. of adequate in my area voip, 500 texts, and 500 MB data, which I also use with googlevoice...

might not be forever- ring plus has a lot going for it... but for now, I am enjoying no cell phone bill at all!

We have two Airvoice Wireless $10 monthly plans, I use under $10 a month and my wife uses about $15 per month.  We used to have ATT for $130 a month for two Iphones.  Even if we get a new Iphone again we would get it unlocked without a carrier pay the full price and still come out a head in under a year.

I have republic wireless, the $10 plan (its more like $12 after taxes).  Unlimited talk and text, unlimited internet via wifi.  I referred a friend in real life, and also have gotten about 5 referrals from the republic wireless referral thread on this forum.  The mysterious referrals just keep rolling in, and each one counts as $20 so almost 2 months per referral.  I haven't actually had to pay a bill yet.

EDIT: oops, I meant $20 not $200

I'm at $26, on Ting. My data usage only barely goes above 100 mb per month, so it really should be closer to $15. Working on getting it down. One contributor was that I chose to buy a used iPhone (for $300) instead of an Android phone. I get a good camera (my main priority) and texting is virtually free since the overwhelming majority of my friends and family use iMessage.

I'm on T-Mobile's Pay As You Go plan with my Android device. It's 10¢/minute and 10¢/text and no mobile data service, but I don't use many minutes or texts so my typical cost is under $5/month. If I need to get online with my phone, I find WiFi is available enough, and I also have a FreedomPop WiFi hotspot (500 MB free every month).

$12.50 for me on a phone that I got for free (iPhone 4S) when a friend had an insurance claim and they gave her a new phone, but the Apple store replaced her old one for free as well. Not sure if that's insurance fraud, but it was a long time ago now.

Hubby has a 5S through work, so the $12.50 a month is for both of us. Guess I should have answered $6.25 then.

$35 with Cricket for talk/text and 1GB high speed data with unlimited 128kb speed after that.

T-mobile and Sprint are not options here so this isn't too bad a deal with my usage patterns

I'm on Airvoice's Pay as You Go Plan (averaging about $7/month) and the wife is on Page Plus's Standard Plan, also a pay as you go plan.  She averages about $12/month.

My family pays $44/month for three phones, on Ting.  We pay a base rate of $6 per phone per month, the rest is our cumulative usage for mins/texts/data.  So, about $15 each.

Currently I'm paying $26 a month through SpinTel, with an out-of-contract iPhone 5. That's for 250 minutes, 100 texts, and 2.5GB of 4G data. Chances are I'll end up being bumped to the next tier for calls this month, another $2.

It uses the Optus network, which works quite well where I live and work. I'm happy, better than paying $107 to Telstra :)

$2.50 a month. I don't even use that much, so it just keeps rolling over and building up as credit.

Changing my cell phone service has been my best mustachian move so far.  Used to have Verizon and paid $109 per month for one smart phone and one flip phone.  Now with Page Plus Cellular, I pay $12 a month for the smart phone and about $8 a month for the flip phone.  So I'm saving about $89 a month!  And since Page Plus uses the Verizon network I still get great reception.

On the smart phone I only have a minimal amount of data to use, but I've learned to just leave my data off and use wifi most of the time.  If I do use all my data during a month I can add $10 to the account to use more before my next monthly renewal and if I don't use it all it will roll over.

I did have to buy new phones ($90 & $20) and pay an early termination fee ($230).  But it paid for itself in less than 4 months.

$25 for each phone on a T-mobile family plan. No data plan required. DH and I each have iPhones that were partially gifts. We share the plan with my immediate family, and my dad got an iPhone first. When I found out I could have an iPhone for no extra charges each month, I was sold. Have had T-mobile for about 10 years, always been a happy customer.

Platinumtel pay-as-you-go - Since I switched almost two years ago, I've averaged around $8/mo.  Slightly higher more recently (~$12/mo) due to more traveling.

Another Page Plus phone here (via kitty Wireless). Brought my iPhone 4S over from Verizon, so the exact same service went from $112/month to $43. I could maybe drop lower for less data, but it's my business phone (self-employed pet sitter) so I use a lot of MMS data for sending clients pics/vids of their "kids" having fun.

Same here. If I didn't have this benefit I would probably be in the $50+ category though.

If I lived anywhere where there was decent options and MVNO's actually worked for me, I'd be in the $20-30/mo range effortlessly. But, I'm "stuck" with $50+. But my expenses are otherwise ridiculously low so I don't sweat it at all.

$23 a month for one phone on Verizon.  unlimited data, texts and minutes, subsidized upgrade every 2 years.  I ordered the fanciest phone offered for "free" the other day (Droid MAXX).  My employer subsidizes my cell phone plan.

Facepunch me please.

Wife and I pay ~$120/mo for two smartphone plans in Vancouver, Canada. We get talk/text and pay as you go data which usually amounts to about 1.5GB used between the two of us.

We're on Rogers. I'd love to find something cheaper but I can't find a way to do it. All the other carriers are either more expensive or don't have coverage in half the places we go.

$35/month each for two phones on Virgin Mobile.  I recently changed the plan so we get unlimited minutes and texts, but only 250 mb of high speed data now.  We almost always have wifi access anyway.

I have looked into Ting, but I can never find a good enough deal on one of their phones to make me switch.

$29.95 + tax/fees = $32.86 for Page Plus with 1200 min / 3000 texts / 500 mb data. It's more than I need, but the $12 plan is less than I need, so I'm happy to stick with this and never worry about going over.

$74/month with a Samsung S4 and AT&T--it would be more if my employer didn't get a discount from AT&T.

(accepts facepunch)

Since I don't want to buy a new phone and Ting doesn't take AT&T phones I'm looking into Straight Talk once my contract is up in a couple of months.

Why do you think your only option is Straight Talk? There are far better options outside of just the three MVNOs that MMM recommends.

I work in Yellowknife so I need a plan that gives me unlimited calling in Canada. My plan is $45/month with Bell Mobility, which includes unlimited voice calls and SMS within Canada, but no data. I think it is outrageously expensive but with my wife and one daughter in Alberta, a son and daughter in different cities in British Columbia, and a son and parents in Quebec, this is the lowest plan available in Yellowknife. My wife has a $35/month Wind Mobile plan which includes unlimited SMS, unlimited talking within Alberta, and "unlimited" data. At home, we have no land line, no home internet, and no cable.

$0. I've never had a cell phone.

We pay $6.67 / month for my wife's pay as you go plan.

When I recently got her a new phone ($15) the Virgin website did not list our $20 for 3 months plan as an option. $25/month was the lowest. Both of us said No Way to that! I had to call customer service to maintain the original low cost plan.

I pay about $90/mo but since I was grandfathered in under Verizon's old unlimited data plan I just use my phone for my home internet as well and I don't pay a separate bill for broadband internet.  I have a 4gLTE phone I bought used off Amazon so my speed is pretty decent.  I feel it is worth the expense.

My phone is 42 a month through PagePlus or kitty wireless. I need more mins per month. I talk on the phone a lot. It's usually household bill paying, kids stuff related tough. Most of my family talk is thru text or in person.

Husband is through Verizon pay as you go plan and his bill with taxes is 59 a month. He needs/wants more data and can't be on wifi all the time like I can.

Now please don't face punch me because we actually dropped it from 210 a month for 3 phones to under 100 for 2 phones.
My oldest decided to go off on her own and get her own service and she pays about 36 a month thru Virgin Mobile.

We pay between 50 and 60 a month for two phones on Ting. We really don't use data at all, so that's just for minutes and texting. We don't live near any of our families or friends so we're both heavy phone users.

$41.41/month on Fido, a subsidiary of Rogers Wireless. I get 300 weekday minutes, unlimited evenings/weekends, unlimited Canada-wide long distance, unlimited texts and 300 MB data. We finally dropped our home phone, and I started using Google voice for outgoing calls to my mom or businesses during the day. It's a couple bucks saved though I have the feeling we could do better. The other cell phone in the family is $35/mo for talk & text, no data.

Both GF and I use our work phones for everything.  If we are let go or whatever we would go prepaid for like $120/yr per person.

This is our first month on Ting, and it looks like we'll owe $29.  That's for 2 smartphones with talk & text, plus a tiny amount of data used (we generally stick to wifi).  We have $100 in referral credit, though, so we won't actually pay anything for a couple of months.  :)

We used to pay $145/mo with US Cellular - 2 smartphones, unlimited talk & text, 2gb of data each.

$0/month currently for my phone on Cricket. Ported from Verizon to T-Mobile prepaid for a few days and to Cricket to get the $100 credit. I also got an additional $50 credit for referrals for almost 5 free months of service. The problem is that Cricket is having issues with data right now, so I'm tempted to jump ship. The beauty of no contract prepaid!

For my wife's phone, her line is billed at $65/month after taxes on Verizon postpaid for unlimited talk/text and 2gb of data. I have left her there for two reasons. First, it is a relatively cheap plan to get a subsidized phone. Second, it is the cheapest Verizon plan that will provide a billing statement - I have to have a billing statement to turn in for my employer's reimbursement. They'll reimburse me for $30 of the plan, so the net cost is only $35 a month right now.

Still planning changes going forward, so we'll see where I am in a few months.

$30 for an old T-Mobile/Walmart plan that probably doesn't exist anymore, currently on an HTC OneX I inherited from my sister-in-law when she upgraded her phone (so basically free as long as I'm okay with slightly old phones). 100 texts, 100 minutes, unlimited data. But since I use Google Voice as my primary number, unlimited data effectively means unlimited texts and the only limitation is minutes. I probably could get a cheaper plan and stick to WiFi, but I really love being able to use data whenever I want (Netflix on the bus? Sure, why not!). I think I'm sitting at a little over 3 gig of usage this month with a week and a half to go before the next cycle.

Do you know how much data you use per month?  My wife and I used to have data plans but once I actually looked at how much data I used we switched to Airvoice and went down from $130 a month to $30 a month on average.  Since I am mostly within Wifi, home, work, or public our actual data usage was very low.  Granted I don't watch videos on the bus or other data intensive activities but I think it's a small adjustment to save $1200 a year.

I pay about $12/month for 100 mins (over 3 months) and unlimited incoming texts, no data from Petro Canada Mobility.   I've never had an issue with the service and I highly recommend it for any other Canadians looking for a cheap provider.

Wow, a phone plan for fifteen bucks!
