We have something like that around here...it is called Cash and Carry. It is awesome.

I like to go buy what ever they have on sale that I need. Sometimes they have kickass deals.

Chicken breast for $.79 a pound. I buy 80# at a time when that deal is available.

I have a membership to Restaurant Depot and have shopped there on numerous occasions.  It would be difficult for it to replace typical grocery store trips, but has definitely helped save a lot of money on purchases for large parties (e.g., brisket, ribs, etc.).  I also purchase 11 pound bricks of 70% cacao dark chocolate there, which is so much less per pound than what my wife was previously buying at Trader Joes.

I have been to restaurant depot many times.  It is great for businesses but I am not sure you can make it work unless you have a large family and a lot of space.  Not only do a lot of the items come in bulk, but also, they don't come packaged for easy consumption.  For example, deli meat and cheese come pre-sliced.  It's a great deal, but you have to have a slicer, or a set of really big knives to make it work.  Some things, like the seafood are sold in smaller quantities.

At one point, I had asked my friends if they were interested in shopping at RD with me so we could split the large items.  They thought I was being too cheap and it would be a hassle.

I have been there before with a friend who worked for a restaurant.  I have always dreamed of going back.

Do you know do you need a restaurant license or will any business work?

We have one of these right by our house, and I've always wanted to check it out. Thanks for the tip about the business license. I believe I might have a friend with one. She has four kids and I have three, so maybe between the two of us, we can split some good deals.

So, from what I understand, it's all tax free. I wouldn't judge someone else for purchasing things for personal use and not resale (not my bag to judge), but I personally wouldn't feel comfortable using a business license to buy food tax free for my own consumption.

I could really go for 5 pounds of feta for $12. But I'm OK with not getting 4 gallons of blue cheese dressing.

I've never shopped there, but I delivered to the oak creek, wi location. That experience ensured I will never eat anything not vaccumed sealed, with a tamper proof lid from that location.
The warehouse smelled very bad, there was an employee just chucking bags of trash up on racking which was directly above pallets yet to go on the floor. Worst of all the employees didn't check the load at all.
When you deliver to a wal Mart, aldi,Kroger, target, etc they check the load, esspecially temperature. It is not all that rare for a delivery trucks refrigeration unit to malfunction. Some fly by night companies will attempt delivery of meat that was in a hot trailer for a day. That location wouldn't have caught that.
