I made a post in another forum about travel insurance, but we are also looking at life, etc. right now. How do you decide on an insurer? Surely there are Moody's and other ratings about assets, etc., but what about customer service and the claims process?

I am very confused about all this. I looked on a few websites for info about this one popular travel insurer World Nomads, and there seems to be very good ratings and press on various blogs (and even on this forum)--until you read actual comments from policyholders: https://www.consumersadvocate.org/travel-insurance/c/world-nomads?page=2

Every single one of these commenters called the company a huge scam which is virtually impossible to collect from if you have a claim. Possibly a red flag is that they are quite a bit cheaper than the competition; I think most people rate them highly because of this and never actually have a claim?

I am also looking at term life insurance through my union at work. Will need to research this thoroughly too.

How do you decide and what resources do you use?

Thanks!
