Just wanted to give a quick intro, and say hi.
I'm now 30yrs old, and should be retired by now! lol But, not yet... Close, but not yet where I want to be.
I earn a decent living, live WAY below my means, live in a tiny house that is offgrid in the middle of the mountains, so I commute each day into town dodging deer and rocks in the road. This morning it was like an ice rally course, but the mountain roads were better than in town, and had fewer slide offs. Power outage? What power outage? Oh, the generator must be out of gas. lol
Anyway, enough with the horrible mountain humor : )
So, financially we are $2k away from being entirely debt free, including all cars and our property we live on, except the new house we are purchasing in town. The 2k is student loan debt. The house we are getting on a short sale for about $30k under market value. As things sit we have a net worth around 70k. The new house, if approved by the bank will big a huge step forward. The equity and rent potential is just to big to pass up. We expect to live there for a few years and make a couple repairs, then rent it for about 1,100 net income per month.
I'm figuring we should be FI in 5yrs. To do this we will save a big portion of our income, pay off the new house purchase, take out loans to get 2 more positive cashflow houses, and buy dividend producing stocks as well.
I look forward to helping anyone where I can and getting to know some of you.

I'm curious as to where and what mountains you live in, as someone who's spent quite a bit of time exploring mountains, and is still looking for somewhere to be based in the future.

Yea, cant complain. Nice weather most of the year, good hunting and fishing, miles and miles of forest services road and trails, historic mining towns, beautiful scenery, not to many people, and best of all cheap properties. The building codes and ordinances are pretty relaxed, so trashy properties are to be expected in some areas, if you have a problem with that there are nicer places that cost more and have outrageous HOA fees.

Welcome, GRS - sounds like you love your mountains. Living on the Gulf Coast, there are no mountains to be found anywhere (but then, it's 65 today and all week). Enjoy them and MMM. So much to learn. Best of luck.

The wife and I have considered getting a cheap sail boat to live aboard down there in the gulf(post FIRE), pretty much cant beat the climate, and fishing.
