fraud?
« on: April 03, 2018, 10:51:29 AM »
I've lost the info for my old login (Cranberries) and I've got a question for you all!

Three times recently I've had purchases cancelled because they raised fraud concerns. I moved to a place that only Verizon worked, but Verizon wouldn't sell me phones or a plan due to fraud concerns. I tried to use my husband's information, and the same thing happened (eventually got the plan at the store). Then today I learned that the order I'd placed on Newegg for a badly needed computer had been cancelled due to fraud concerns as well.

So now I am seriously wondering what is up. My data was definitely stolen with the government data breach a couple of years ago, but I don't know if they are related or not. Neither newegg nor verizon could give me any real information about what was raising the flag.

Do any of you have recommendations on where and what to check and/or lock down?

Thank you!

Have you done a credit check to see if there is any activity you don't recognize?

Yes, I have. There doesn't seem to be any unauthorized activity. One possibility that I'm seeing as I dig through my accounts is that trans union has an old address on file for me, and has not updated. Maybe it's just a credit address mismatch?

Have you tried calling your bank/credit card customer service? They could be canceling the transactions from their end, which would explain why the vendors don't have much info.

I've spoken with my bank and it's not them, but I have not contacted the specific credit card - I had assumed since it worked for everything else, with no hiccups, the problem was not there. I'll give them a call.

Thank you all for your ideas!

If you are denied credit, the credit monitoring agencies must provide a free explanation.  If you're already in that category, I'd follow that route.  Maybe you should try opening up a new credit card, get rejected, then follow up with whoever flagged you?
