How does MMM make money off this site?
« on: May 16, 2021, 07:09:51 AM »

It didn't cost me anything to join the MMM forum.
There is tons of free information available on the site and in the forum.
I see some ad's at the bottom of the page, but I don't get pop up ads that require any action on my part.
The ad's at the bottom are so non-intrusive that I don't even realize they are there.

I'm certainly not complaining, but I am curious on how the site is financed and if there are other ways he gets profit from the site.

He does ads and has affiliate links to services like Personal Capital, Betterment, Republic Wireless, etc. With the traffic this website generates, that adds up to quite a big income stream.

Makes you think, though, right?  MMM can make good money off this site and the blog through non-instrusive, non-annoying ads, no need to scroll through or dismiss pop-ups.  Granted, financial ads for a targeted audience probably do better than most, but it does show that other sites are coining it in - or just being pretty shitty for not much reason.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong. I remember some time back, MMM saying he was making 300k/year from ads and particularly referrals when someone signs up for a service.

This forum is also consistently down and often slow though.

Gotta keep that in mind ;-)

The blog had quite a bit more traffic than the forum.

It looks like the blog continues to get about 2.5 million hits per year. I think the links to credit cards are one of his biggest income-producers. Most CC's provide $50-200 per referral - which adds up pretty fast when you have the kind of traffic he does.

A lot of them cap out though at a limit.

In any event he makes more than enough money off of advertising/referrals :)
