Good news about Coronavirus from Northern Europe?
« on: March 20, 2020, 12:24:42 PM »
I've been looking at reported data from the different countries in Europe and it seems that the death rate in Northern Europe is generally pretty low so far, and am wondering if that is just because they are finding more of those who have the virus faster than in Italy for instance so its just a reporting factor, or if something else is going on. The next several days might give us more and better data, but right now I'm optimistic about whats going on there compared to elsewhere, but with this virus who really knows.

Denmark has a pretty strict lockdown and is paying 75% of people's wages while they are home.  Actions like that go a long way to reducing people's exposure.

It's possible it's just that the hospitals there aren't maxed out.

So I think a lot of the Italy vs Northern Europe difference is that so many elderly Italians are in the infected category, and far less so in Germany at any rate (based on one chart I saw), and I'm guessing other parts of Northern Europe. This implies that maybe there are lots more uncounted younger people in Italy perhaps, who in other countries are being counted?  Either way, the continual low death rates out of Germany, Czechia, Finland, Austria etc. is pretty good news, to counterbalance the scary results out of Italy.
